Red looks quite good:  https://www.facebook.com/gtiworld/photos/a.205006659529337.58107.198610216835648/1411845368845454/?type=3&theater

TR is a fantastic colour and mixes well with the black CS details. If I was buying now that'd be the one for me.

I agree, really suits the car - I just don't like it.

If there ever was one Golf variant that red would not look out of place that would be the CS but I still think Golfs are not meant to be "red cars". It's something in the name, heritage and character/personality that just doesn't make it look good in red in my eyes and it would take many future CS's to change that. Then again red is a very special car color for me and few cars feel right in it anyway.

I mostly agree in that a humdrum model doesn't suit red but the sporting Golfs do look good with the flashy large alloys and black accents, gives them a more exciting look to my eye. Plus, in my opinion, when washed and waxed few colours look as good as TR. As smart as carbon grey looks, and originally was the colour I wanted, it is just a bit too subtle for a mid life crisis

After a load of empty promises and some incorrect info from VW UK, I either order a car that's not to my choice of spec and may not be built, or give up on it. Or look used.

Unless a miracle crops up, I think I'll have to leave it.

ED45 it is then!
