Mine has nothing like that. Also none of the other Clubsports I have seen in other countries (SA, Germany, Sweden) have anything like it. Which would make sense since the production of Clubsports is not of a limited amount (rather of a limited period). Which also explains why the number is not in the usual "no. X of Y" format (as in the Clubsport S)

So I am assuming it was retro-fitted in the UK to add sine "uniqueness?" A bit lame though if it ain't done from factory hence has no universal meaning...

I quite like it. Hidden and out of the way. Looks as if it's from the factory as I can't see a main dealer doing this?

First UK one that I have seen.

It is attached at the factory

VW probably don't know how many CS they will make as yet?
The reason I say that, is empirical rather than having any "inside" knowledge.

I recall the 2006 Edition 30 was initially supposed to be a run of 1500 cars for the UK.

If you had the chassis number and reg, you could apply to VW UK for a stick on plaque, I have seen these with numbers as high as 2297, considerably more than the expected 1500.

They do there will be 1000 according to vw UK. No allocation all build to order.

The VW press release wording is a bit vague re. the 1,000 units, as they only "anticipate" that no more than 1,000 examples will be available to the UK.  The wording leaves plenty of scope to build more if there is demand, unfortunately.  The exact wording is below:

"Production of the new Golf GTI Clubsport Edition 40 is time limited, and it is anticipated that no more than 1,000 examples of the latest ‘collector’s item’ GTI will be made available to UK buyers."

The internal desktop bulletin states they just going to let people order them until the 1000 have run out. Perhaps Lee can find it and post it?

Bulletins and press statements are all very well, Porsche suggested they would bring 200x Cayman GT4 into the UK, that has become 600.
The example I mentioned of 800 more ED30 being built than initially proposed, shows VW are not immune to "extra" production.

It may well be only 1000 produced for the UK, the only way to know is wait and see...?

So for some reason, the main assembly plant keeps track of how many UK cars in particular are being made and then sticks a plate to them alone? Since the production is not number-limited nor area-limited may I ask why would it do that?

Isn't the number on the plaque the last 4 digits of the chassis number? If someone is by the showroom car they can check it against windscreen VIN.  If it is that's not great, if it isn't then that's more meaningful.

Don't think all this Clubsport S press activity is to increase demand for a car you can't buy - it's to boost sales of the next best thing, the Clubsport Edition 40 which you can.

Much like Monkey Harris tweeting today that the 911 Turbo which is readily available is a better car than the 911 R (which is sold out).

Was it a CS or CSS you are getting in the end?  Didn't quite catch that.
