Still some discussion over the centre console though it seems, we know you can't have an arm rest with the buckets but first customer car here, has no blind over bottle holder area, when all show cars had. Looks a bit basic to be honest without.

If they'd told you that they'd done it to reduce weight then you'd be all over it.

So just think of it like that, weight reduction ;-)

Its just a shame it weighs the same as the GTI in the same spec.  I guess the "Sport" seats are not that much of a true weight saving.

This car is a complete waste of time IMO. It's basically a detuned R and what's the point in that given it will only be about a grand less and not have AWD.

Sadly I agree

Agree also in some respect, but the gap between the 2x has always been relatively small, what with the PP version of the GTi.

I have considered ordering an R too, at end of last year with the current discounts via brokers and loyalty bonus, but so many around now, I think I have seen about 3x 16 plates this week alone! That has got to be bad come resale time, considering mine will be cash purchase?

Its the anniversary model - enough said.

Its designed and specced and commercially placed to attract VW enthusiasts. If you look at the history of the campaign models they've all had little style or performance differences to the regular models.

I think it all depends on who they are marketing it towards. For me it's a GTI + rather than a R -

I'm sure plenty buy GTi that could realistically afford an R. For me both the Gti and R both need a few more HP next time out. I love those seats on the CS though.

PP, tints, Chassis Control.

An R is just a series production model and not a hallowed special engineering project but whatever way you look at it, it sits at the top of the current Golf tree so will always be worth more money than other models in the range until they reach banger age.
Maybe the CS will have a bit of a halo in some circles and will hold its value better than an R? Who knows but I don't think it'll be with a huge amount more than other Golfs. I'd be happy to be proved wrong!
Look back at the mk5 GTI and they were everywhere, same with a mk2. Did those popular models suffer bad depreciation? Quite the reverse in their heyday and I think the R is having a bit of a heyday. It's only the fact that there's still lots of cheap leasers about driving the perceived value down, but the real reason for its popularity is that it has become an affordable 300 bhp 4wd Q-car with the classlessness of the Golf moniker. So there will be a good market for used ones amongst the boy and girl racer brigade for a few years to come  once the leasegate and dieselgate thing has passed into history.

Indeed Neil. Nail on head.

Might be worth waiting until the site has been rebuilt otherwise you wont be able to use the forum discount.

Cheers

Really like it in Carbon, still get to see the details of the black styling, but subtle and stealthy.
