Question for techies about infotainment system
« on: 11 January 2016, 15:48 »
Hi,

I think I posted about this before, because it's been going on a while, but it seems to be getting worse. The infotainment system (bog standard 2013 unit) in my Mk7 will often crash at ignition on if I plug in my iphone before the car is powered on. Sometimes this will happen once and then it's fine, sometimes it goes in to a loop of crashing and rebooting. Unplugging my phone and letting the system reboot, then plugging it in normally fixes it.

Recently it's learned a new and even more annoying trick.. The system doesn't crash, but on a random interval it will change itself from SD card/iPod to the radio, then change the radio to FM (it's normally on DAB) and then begin searching for stations. If I switch back to whatever I was listening to before, it will wait a random time and then do it again.

Has anyone seen anything like this, please (I've asked before and nobody said anything, so I guess not)?

My other question was - how can I tell what software version my Golf has got, and does anyone know what the current version is, please? I'm wondering about going to the dealer and asking for an update to see if that fixes it.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,
Andy

To find out your software version:

Press Menu button - scroll to Setup (at far right) - scroll down to System Information.  It will tell you the software version.

I would treat it like any PC - give the base system - the car - time to boot and initialise before plugging any peripherals into it.  Technology is not a fall proof as the suppliers would ahve you believe.

That's true, but it doesn't happen in mine. Plugging my phone is often the first thing I do. You need a trip to the dealer

Same here, phone plugged in first thing and no issues.

OP -  They do crash as do all computers but yours doesn't sound right, needs looking at. Maybe a software update will resolve your issues.

Thanks all.

I'll take it in to the dealer. I have another issue with an intermittent false alarm from the coolant sensor so I can get them to look at both at the same time.
