Another one bites the dust
« on: 09 January 2016, 23:09 »
I haven't posted here for a while mainly as I have been out enjoying my car far too much!!  But unfortunately I was involved in an accident last week where someone pulled out on me.
The pictures below show what happens when a mk2 hits an almost stationary vehicle at 50+ mph.  Thank vw for the long bonnet  :lipsrsealed:  I managed to walk from this (after a ride in an ambulance and a day in hospital).
Gutted about the car which has had 5 years worth of hard work put in to it and countless hours of paintwork by myself....

I converted it to a vr6 year before last and rebuilt the engine soon after as it turned out the head gasket was knackered and the gearbox was shot. But anyway long one short... gutted.

I am on the other hand very grateful and lucky to be alive considering the force of the impact etc.  I am pretty beat up, mainly my face from hitting the screen, but the usual bruising to ribs, neck and shoulder.  So now I say goodbye to mk2 number 8... and easily the best of the lot.

This was where my sub lived, the force ripped it out of 18mm mdf.. which then smashed through the rear bench.

Holy flying sh!t balls! That was a serious impact. Glad you got out relatively unscathed. Such a shame about the car. Hope you can pick up the pieces and put together another such motor ;-)

Cheers. Feeling very lucky as there are so many details that could have made it a very different story. For example the mdf parcel shelf with 6x9's and boxes that usually perches on top of the supports... just happened to take t out that morning  :lipsrsealed:

You are welcome to those... you will have to come and get them though!!

That's what I always drive with the headlights on, day or night. I nearly had something similar happen to me once so I have had headlights on ever since.
