Anyone tried this?
« on: 07 January 2016, 16:53 »
My Mk4 is pretty much bog standard....on the inside at least, but I'm thinking of a few changes.

My centre console has the Gamma radio and the Climatronic display panel and an empty, but handy slot at the top...I have a huge problem seeing the Climatronic panel when I'm driving and I'm wondering if it's feasible, and possible to move everything up one position. In other words, have the radio at the top, climate stuff next and the handy storage slot, at the bottom.

Anyone ever done, or considered this? The only problem I can see is the cup holder...but I can do without one of them, if needs be.

OK, I'm guessing no one has needed to do this, so the next question will be...how many of you have kept the original setup with the gamma etc?

If you have changed or updated to something better, I'd love to see some pics of what you have now.

Looks like I stick with the Gamma then.

The climate control unit isn't DIN E sized so it's not a case of easily swapping positions about. It's not a million miles out but would need a bit of messing:

The gamma unit is very old now in terms of features but that combined with the 6 dash CD changer to me looks the best. Anything aftermarket stands out a mile but obviously can gain you loads more tech.

Thanks guys...that's the sort of response I was hoping for with my original post.

I don't enjoy anywhere near the sort of choice for gadgets/upgrade stuff that you blokes do, but if I have something specific to chase after, it makes life a little easier. Ebay is not usually the place for me to search, as most sellers won't entertain buyers from outside the UK...original freight costs plus the possible costs involved in returning a faulty unit make for a very careful selection in the first place.

Even chasing up a CD player to fit in the original position has meant visits to numerous breakers yards...result = nil, so far!

Getting stuff fitted is quite another story!!!  Most of us put up with what came with the car...regardless of the age.

barrym381....that looks really nice from where I'm sitting!

jv....I'm not averse to a little trimming. My Dremel is very handy for that sort of thing.

Thanks mate...I'll keep looking for one similar to yours.

They both look good, but the one in your blue car has a cd player, so that might suit better.
