MK6 GTi front bumper removal
« on: 30 December 2015, 18:54 »
Hi guys, one of my foglights needs replacing and I'm going to attempt it in the morning by taking the bumper off.  From what I can see there are four screws under each wheel arch, and two underneath the grill, so is this all there is to it?  Im guessing it's also held on my clips but am I missing anything else?

Also want to add the local branch of well-known garage chain told me it's a two hour job to do and requires specialist tools - am I biting off more than I can chew here?!

Check the Maintenance section HERE

As far as I remember the upper grill is the hardest bit to remove, took a bit of tugging

No problem. just watch where the bumper clips into the wheel arch, this is where the dealer usually breaks the clips.

Also put something over the top of the painted bumper section when removing the upper grill as you remove the grill in a downward motion and you may hit the bumper on the way out.

Just to let you know that I managed to get the job done - thank you for the diagram :D

The only issue I had was the headlight washers not popping up once the bumper was back on and instead spraying the inside of the engine bay when activated!  This caused the EPC light to come on and the car to go into limp mode for some reason, but after letting it dry out for half an hour, it started and ran fine with no warning lights :)

I have absolutely no idea what was wrong with the washers themselves though, as after starting the car up again a couple of hours later to check for warning lights, they decided to work again!  Not that I'm complaining as it's saved itself a trip to the garage!
