Scuttle tray blower intake foam fix
« on: 13 December 2015, 13:36 »
So at the minute it seems I have water getting in the car from everywhere!! One of the sources was the scuttle tray vent for the heater blower air intake. The foam had perished and was letting water in, and dripping down onto the passenger footwell! I found a replacement on flea bay but being the tight a**e that I am I thought it was a tad expensive for a bit of foam!

....... So insted I bought some of these

..... two birds with one stone! I only needed a sheet, the remainder of the pack got the little un out from under my feet while I tinkered. Soooo, I the cut strips out of the foam, 15mm in width each....

........ stuck them down around the vent, and simply trimmed around the edges.....

The good thing is you can also build up the layers to get a better thickness all round, and a better seal when you put back on the car. I used 3 layers in all and the result is actually a lot better than I thought. The foam I got of flea bay although cheap, is good quality, and probably a lot better than what you'd get if you bought the proper pre-cut OE stuff! Happy days!!

  OK i did the same today using the foam you used
the only things i did different ,was make the foam gasket out of a single piece, i thought less chance of water getting in the joins .
i used the old one as a template ,made two which looked like the same thickness as what i had originaly
before i fitted it i put a light smear of vaseline around the base to help seal it too
so fingers crossed .
 thanks for the idea Brighouse-gti

No worries!!... Wait till I post up my door 'water barrier'. I impressed myself with that one, no actual door skin glue'in sealant mess involved, ish ish!! Watch this space!
