I think it's a proper turn of the key.

Very interesting. I have a 3 door on order so please let us know.

Also, can anyone confirm for a 3 door without keyless, is it the old turn key style ignition or is it like some of the Audi's where you push the whole fob into a slot?

The only reason for wanting to know this 10 weeks before I get my car is because I'm bloody excited!

Titchy you need to download the VW brochure on the GTI

Not having a go mate but between the standard lights on the other thread and the keyfob on this one you need to know what you should be expecting on the car otherwise you could be given a miss-build and never know. Reading that should tell you all you want to know.

I've read the brochure, thanks.

Maybe you could point out to me where it says that it's a turn-key style ignition on a 3 door as it's possible I've missed this. As far as I can see, the brochure doesn't even make reference to the fact that keyless isn't included on 3 door models, so I'm assuming it's out of date.

It also doesn't make reference to the daytime running lights and whether it's one U or two as I've seen on the US models. And no, it's not obvious from looking at the photos as there's no way to tell what lights are on.

Thankfully though, some of the other forum members have been helpful. Nevertheless, thanks for patronising me.

Hey Tichy, I picked my car up this morning and it's a 3dr and has keyless entry 100%......I don't know when my build date was or anything like that but I ordered July if that's any help?

After the sublime Autohold, Keyless is next best feature on my car.  Love it!

Standard Keyless, Nav and MIB2 - the benefit of not getting the first off the production line of a new model, though I realise the OP has already had one of those.  That's partly why I didn't rush to buy an early one and same with my Mk6 which was a later one, got lots more as standard.

Congrats on your 2nd GTI.

Hey Booth,

Can I ask a silly question please?

How do you lock the car using keyless? In my Megane I would just walk away from it and it would lock. I've tried putting my hand back in the door handle to lock the door but doesn't seem to be working. I take it the folding mirrors should fold too when the car locks via keyless?

Thanks for your help mate,

Think I found it....you have to press the door handle somewhere...very temperamental tho....takes a while to lock but I'll persevere.

There's a little dimple on the door handle, in or around where the keyhole would have been back in the day. You just need to glance your finger/thumb over that and it'll lock.

Mine isn't temperamental at all, just lightly touch the fixed part of the handle and it locks first time every time.

You only get keyless on the 5 door. It's not available on the 3 door model at all.

Not any more anyway.

I've specified keyless entry on my three door and have been told it's there.....I'll find out on Friday if it's true or not tho.... :-)

It's a turn of the key. I make sure I put some masking tape over the side of the cowling to make sure the garage doesn't scratch it up.

You've figured it out now, but as the others have said to open you just pop your hand inside the handle and it unlocks, and to lock just wave your hand across the door handle in front of the little dimple. You barely have to touch the handle at all.

Yep the mirrors fold in when it's locked.  That's the easiest way to be sure it's locked, just a quick glance over your shoulder as you walk away confirms it.  Also remember, you can open the boot via the VW boot badge without the rest of the car unlocking, which is very handy at times.

Never had any issues with mine.  Sorry for stating the obvious, but remember it can depend whereabouts the key is on your person/bag etc.  If the key is not detectable properly then it won't pick it up.  This has happened on a couple of occasions when my key was buried under a pile of crap in my bag.
