Nearly a GTi, then an R on Build Week 47
« on: 18 November 2015, 20:17 »
Having changed my Mk6 GTi for a Passat nearly a year ago we have now decided to change the wife's BMW for an R. I loved the Mk6 ,circumstances dictated we needed extra room and 4 doors so we had to change it and the Passat does that job well. However, we both miss the pace of the GTi.
In summer we test drove the GTI and the R at the same dealer one Sunday afternoon. I loved both, the wife was a bit intimidated by how quick the R was, probably not helped by a bit of a dodgy brown stain inducing overtake I did on the test drive but hey, you've got to give it some welly haven't you?
In the end we decided on a GTi PP at which point I said I wanted to wait to see the inevitable 40th anniversary model that would be due. Along comes the said model in the form of the Clubsport, I show it to the wife who promptly says she doesn't like it. "Too manly for me" she says (it is her car after all) "and I don't like the big spoiler". So, after some ringing round, haggling and finding out the R wasn't that much more to stick on a PCP we ordered one in that Lapiz blue colour. Just a 5 door with sat nav (I can't believe that's free on the GTi and not the R!!) and the Mirror Link thingy.
Move forward a few weeks and I am informed by the lease company it is being built this week (build week 47). The lease lady said that would mean delivery in December or January. Having searched "build week" on here, several people have said it's 2 or 3 weeks to the dealer after the build week. 4 weeks on Friday is the 18th December - from your experience what do people think is a realistic time scale for delivery once the build week is confirmed? It'd be nice if she got it over the Christmas holidays - I wouldn't have to buy her anything else then!!

Congrats on your R purchase Andykram.

The official line is it takes 4 weeks from start of build to delivery to the dealer.  Then it has to be PDI'd before collection.  So I would say t's very reasonable to expect to have it prior to Christmas.

As a guide mine took 3.5 weeks from start of build week to me collecting it from the dealer on 30th Sept.

Nice present, but I expect she'll still want to see something under the tree.
