Brake fluid reservoir plunger
« on: 15 November 2015, 19:17 »
Hi all
I need your advice. Noticed my handbrake light wasn't going out this weekend on my mk3 2.0 8v. I checked the switch, fluid level, wiring etc and all was good. When I checked the reservoir plug, the plunger popped up out of the top of the cap and the light went off! Should the plunger really be sticking out like that? It never was before and there was no issue with the light staying on.
Any info would be appreciated

Can you post a photo? Is the dust cap still on?

I'll get a photo tomorrow when the lights a bit better. From memory, no dust cap as such. The purple stem of the plunger has a circlip. at the top and there is a rubber washer around the base where it goes through the cap. At the moment, the purple stem is sticking up through the cap by a couple of inches and the base of the plunger if floating on top of the fluid.

Is the plunger itself gooked up and inoperative?

And when's the last time that you bled the breaks?
