Still want a mk2 small bumber 16v
Give me mechanical over electronics anyday.
So its not as fast, refined, or as quick  round corners but so what its more fun at sane speeds.
My mk1 GTI has been the most reliable car ive ever owned. Never let me down in 26 years. Why because its simple and components way over speced engineered.
My Mk5 and mk6 have been interior  rattling, oil leaking things with design issues.
Odd but my leon which is the same age as those two combined has been far more robust maybe because its the generation before and had less account inputs, also its one of the last of that shape by then most the bugs have been worked out.
I keep thinking of a mk7 R or clubsport  but keep reading forums and cannot bring myself to do it after reading issues.
I also seem to be fixing more and more family VWs than everything  else combined!
I haveaa polo sitting on the drive waiting for repair as its electronics keep acting up and going into limp home mode. Electronic throttles, EGR valves who really needs them really! Also has an intake leak somewere, iirc they have a plastic manifold!

Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI
34 years of GTI ownership.
