Usually get really itchy feet at 2 years the marker which just gone past but going to happily see out another year and highly likely being moving to an R or maybe a GTI if the Clubsport is available to me.

This is best car the personally driven as my own.

With regards the best GTI then its the MK 1 as still grabs attention whenever see one and the MK 5 which even when see one now still appreciate its lines and particularly the front end.

Obviously the MK 7 with the new chassis and tech does stand apart experience wise.

Mk7 is my first ever Golf so the Mk7 wins by default!

Always loved the look of the Mk4 R32 though.

For me it has to be the Mk2. As a teenager with a driving license in the late 80's, the Golf GTI, along with the Series One RS Turbo was something that many of us wanted so badly. Seemingly affordable despite costing 18 months salary. Thirty odd years later and the next generation are lusting after supercars with 6 figure price tags, not an everyday hot hatch.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Of the one's I've had:

First and overall favourite - my second Mk5 GTI - and my first DSG car
Second -  Mk7 R - but could be elevated to number one position, maybe....
Third - Mk6 GTI - still very fondly remembered.

I've had two, the first a MK1 Campaign in Helios Blue - a great car and I still lust after one but the though of owning a 30 + year old money trap brings me back to reality pretty quickly.

MK7 non PP is a great car made better with a few mods. Waiting anxiously to hear more on the Clubsport. This is motivated primarily because I missed out on an Edition 30 as I was penniless with a new mortgage and 2 kids when it was launched.

2026 Golf GTI ED50 ???

2023 MK8 Golf R - sold
2021 MK8 Clubsport ED45 - sold
2016 MK7 Clubsport ED40 - still hanging around

I've only had two Golfs, this one and a Mk3 VR6.

As it took me 20 years to get my second Golf, you can assume I didn't rate the first one and only kept it for a couple of years.

This one is definitely in my top 3 favourite vehicles I have owned so unusually I think I shall be keeping this one for more than 3 years (unusual) and await the Mk8.

Mk2 by a mile, then the Mk1 followed by the mk3.

The rest aren't even proper cars
