Air box disaster
« on: 07 November 2015, 13:27 »
I'm new to the forum and have tried using the search function to no avail so here's my issue:-
Ive brought a 1.8t AUG but it's come with a crappy (Max Power) cone filter. It's caused all manner of problems and I want it back standard.
Do I NEED  an air box from a 1.8 or will others fit? Also I don't have any of the fitting hoses, nuts, bolts etc or even know if I need a SAI.
Part numbers would be awesome. I tried to see if part numbers were the same across different engines but I can't find any at all.
Seriously need help with this. The piece of sh!t air filter is destroying my car.

You need to get one from 1.8t. Check part numbers on partscat online. ;)

You need airbox bottom from from any 1.8t and airbox top half from an early agu 1.8t. If you get the later top half you'll have to block off the Sai feed ;-)
Are you planning to drill and smooth the standard air box?

Thanks everyone 😊
Is drilling and smoothing the box a good idea? What does it achieve?
I am planning on modding but I need to get her in good working order first.
I will look on parts at online now 😊

It will derestrict and free up the air flow. I also cut the mesh out behind the grills and fitted a Pipercross panel filter.
Only problem I have is the occasional leaf or bug in the bottom of the air box.
When talking drilling, only a few small drain holes in/around the corners and low points of the box. Not Swiss cheese heat soak style!
