The kenwood mib upgrade...Installation help please
« on: 06 November 2015, 18:55 »
Hello. New member here.

Like many I found this forum by trying to find an answer to a problem. I hope someone can help

I've just installed the kenwood/garmin mib unit and have a problem.

basically the screen shows the nav but it's only on a 1/4 of the screen.

its tiny and is duplicated underneath ie half the screen has two mini versions of the nav.

anyone got any suggestions?

Car is a new golf r

thanks in advance

Is it fitted to a new MIB II setup but designed for MIB I.

Just a thought...

Thanks for the reply

not sure it says mk7 golf >2013

I have since read (not noted in the instructions) that if you have park assist then you need to enable the dip switch for the reverse camera even if you don't have one. maybe that's it?

I'd agree with this, the screen resolution is different which would explain that behaviour.

Also if the car has MIB II the best way of adding Nav is enabling CarPlay/ Android Auto and mirroring your smartphone's screen

Well I got the thing sorted. Basically the instructions are written incorrectly!

It stated that out of the 4 dip switches then no1 should be 'off' for golf and 'on' for Polo. It's the other way around!

Also it states to set switch 2 to off if you don't have a reversing camera and on if you do. If you have park assist then this needs to be on otherwise when reverse is engauged there's no screen showing the pdc range.

Anyway all sorted and tbh its a really great bit of kit, works perfectly well, has lots of options and looks better than the £1700 vw option.

The dealer tried to sell it at 599.00 but I sourced a new one for 425.00 and fitted it myself!

Thanks for the replies

That makes sense actually as the Polo has had MIB II from the start, so that switch is actually for MIB II rather than Polo specific

Couldn't tell us where you sourced it from, could you?

Tempted by it myself but loathed to pay a dealer to fit it.
