GTD Wheels- replacement wheels and Tyres
« on: 05 November 2015, 20:04 »
Hi, I am new to forums. I have a red 2014 Golf GTD with standard 225/40/18 tyres on Nogaro Alloys 7.5J  offset 49, all standard with the car. I have the chance of replacement alloys with winter wheels, they are 245/40/18 8J offset 45.  The question is will they fit. I will need to get spigot rings as they are 66 and not 57.1.
Any advise greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Assuming the wheels are an Audi fitment and still 5x112PCD?

As JV says, they'll make your speedo slightly out and will physically be larger due to the 40% sidewall will be a fair bit taller on a 245 than a 225 which means that there will be less room under the arch in general.
I'd think a test fitment would be needed to make sure nothing catches but I reckon they'll be just about ok. That's quite a fat tyre for a Golf and if it snows heavy there won't be a lot of room in the wheel arch for snow and tyre.

Welcome BTW.

Thanks they are 5x112, I went to my local tyre fitter and they advised against the 245, maximum suitable 235. I tried one on the back and it just didn't look right there was little clearance for the strut. I am going to check 17 inch instead as they are for the winter and in the Aberdeenshire it gets bad. I tried VW and they could not advise as the have not been given the new products for this year, bit of a surprise, but did advise 17 inch were approved last year.  Thans for the advise.

Erm the 225 245 measurements are the width of the tyre and it has no effect of the rolling radius.

The height measurement for both sets of wheels is listed as 40 so speedo will read exactly the same,

The 40 you refer to is the aspect ratio which is the relationship of the width of a tyre to it's height.
So if the width increases and the aspect ratio stays the same, then the overall diameter will also increase.
