New owner ! :)
« on: 27 October 2015, 20:32 »

So ive finally bought a mk6 gti..09 plate..red..58k dsg
Options i have
Folding mirrors
Heated seats
Sunroof
Dynaudio sound system
Rcd510
Sat nav

I possibly have any extras that i think may not be extra

im 22 years old and my first car was a good little solid 13 reg vw up...with 60 hp! It was a solid car never let me down but it was time to move on...yes it was a big jump but ive wanted a gti since i heard one blast past me...i dont know what the guy had done to it but it sounded out of this world and from then on i had to get my hands on one...
the dsg noise is music to my ears and having power is an amazing feeling...i was thinking of an exhaust upgrade when i got one..but am i the only one who think stock sounds good just perfect?

after reading for possible faults on here i noticed the issue with a timing chain tensioner..the car i have bought had had it updated thankfully..so thats a worry of my head. I have a few problems which are minor...the windows squeek a little when going up and down...and there is a rattle coming from the car like towards the back...it sounds like something loose? Any ideas what it could be??

I also wanted to ask...is there something that can be done to have instant acceleration when i accelerate ? As there is a slight delay? Or is thst just how autos are? also if i was to stage 1 what are the recommended upgades i would need?? And what
Other upgrades would you guys recommend?? wether they are aesthetic or performance upgrades

Thanks

I think the delay is because its electric pedal dont think you can do anything about that if ure wanting to go stage 1 i would put a full exhaust onit and go stage 2 get more power
Full blueflame 3inch turbo back system sports cat, pipercross panel filter, revo stage 2 remap 290 bhp 350 lbft, neuspeed short shift, heko wind deflectors, forge blow off valve.

Car looks awesome mate! good to hear you were able to pick one up with the tensioner work already carried out too.

With regard to you rattle, can you give any more info? Is it coming from inside or something underneath the car? And does it happen all the time or only when accelerating etc etc?

Not done any modding to my car really so not best placed to comment about it but I like the seat handle inserts as a real cheap and quick mod that looks like it should come from the factory. For your throttle pedal response, maybe look at something like the DTUK pedal box? They have a good reputation as a company on this forum and I'm sure there's a discount code floating around somewhere: http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/systems_available.php?id=4711

Congrats on the car.

Regarding your rattle, it might be worth checking out the rear brake dust shields (behind rear brake disc) are not rattling. I have just replaced one of mine due to the mounting points weakening and allowing the dust shield to rattle over bumps. Just the offside shield on mine, the nearside was ok. Mine is a 59 plate on 75K miles, the rear dust shields are a known weak point as the miles go on.

enjoy your car! :)

it sounds like its inside..i still havnt had a look it sounds like some plastic type of rattle and it sounds like its coming from the back..will definately have a look at that pedal box..sometimes i want that instant acceleration and that delay gets annoying..

Thanks mate...nice to see you guys replied ive had so many views and only a few replied...reguarding brakes the edge of my discs have sort of rust going all the way round is that normal? i got pads replaced and the mechanic said discs were fine but they get hot..and i think its something to do with that rust/corrosion ..i will look at those dust shields too..thanks

Rust on the outer rim of discs is normal. If there is a big lip on the edge as well they might be worn but if the mechanic said they are OK then they will be. Discs get very hot especially after heavy breaking (too hot to touch)! so normal too.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.
