Tyre pressures dropping - wheel refurb needed?

Will spare you the long and boring history, but I have had pressure loss ever since fitting a new set of Pirellis a couple of years ago. Needed new pair on the front recently and tyre fitter told me the pressure loss was probably down to the wheels needing refurbishing.

Is this a. true? and b. the best option? Or should I for instance buy a new set of wheels and tyres? Car has just passed MOT, but needs service and new timing belt so I am conscious of how much I am spending on it...

you could always clean the inner rim right up and give it a good coat in bead sealer see if that helps

That's what the tyre fitter did when he put the two new tyres on the front - better than before, but still lose 2 or 3 psi per week

Rears drop up to 10 psi if I leave them for a week...

decent wheels will cost you a few quid and a refurb of your own set 150 upwards

Cheapest I can find full refurbishment is £180 for four - given that I am not overly interested in the aesthetics this seems like a lot to spend to stop my tyres going down, especially as I can get a set of cheap new alloys for £239.

Any other thoughts?

but is that four new alloys with tyres fitted? if not it is going to cost to swap tyres over and re-balance the wheels. does the re-furb include tyre removal and refitting on the original wheels?
