My house is quite near a show home and I see people pull up quite often with their fog lights on when it's not foggy, then get out of the car to go into a (fairly dark compared to outside) show home; and what do they do as they get out of the car? They put their sunglasses on to go INSIDE!!! It's some kind of neurotic behaviour that many people have. In their own mind they're trying to be cool but failing miserably.
It's not like they're knuckle draggers either as they aren't exactly cheap houses or cheap cars and no doubt the sunglasses cost more than I earn in a month...
Anyway, I think the GTI and GTD have a far prettier face than the R and I do like the foglights tucked away on those models but as previously stated, they're white LED lights so not going to be very effective in fog plus the cars have xenon lights as standard in the UK which kind of negate foglights up to a point although I did find the fogs on my GTI useful in really bad visibility for lighting the verges so they're not completely redundant. If you have a standard Euro or US GTI/D with crappy halogens then the fog lights will have a lot more benefit (unless you live in Arizona I guess...)
