GTD Drivers and Front Fog Lights
« on: 14 October 2015, 09:00 »
What is it with GTD drivers driving around with their fog lights on? I see several on a daily basis, all driven around at all times of the day with just the front fog lights on. I didn't even realise it was possible to have the front ones on without the back one coming on.

Am I missing something here?

Not sure I've noticed any - are they using them as DRL's?

Weird really.

I leave my lights on auto, which means when its foggy you need to turn the switch to ON before two further clicks for front and rear fogs.

I hate people who drive around with fog lights on when there is no fog. There's no excuse - the status lights are big and bright and in your face, you just must be being a cnut.

I guess, but with the headlight DRLs on as well. Like there is any need!

All cars have separate controls if they are fitted with front and rear fog lights - well certainly all those I have driven. On the Golf you pull the control knob out one click for fronts and one more for fronts and rears.

Not much point in having the front fogs on in a GTD (Mk.7) as you already have bright U shaped DRL LED's in the headlight units.

Are you sure you can't have the front fog lights on with the parking/side lights?

Both front and rear fog lights can be selected with the lighting knob turned to 'Auto', sidelights or headlights.

This happens around here all the time too, DRLs and front fogs. Gives the car more presence but is annoying when you know they are fog lights

Always thought of the fogs on the GTI/D as more of a styling thing, they're not great as actual fog lights and don't really dazzle oncoming traffic lets be honest, i like seeing them as described above but never do it myself.
