low oil pressure

hi all i'm new to the forum and relatively new to gti ownership, until a couple of weeks ago i was happy as a pig in the brown stuff but now i need help.

the car is an 03 auq with a fairly low 87k on the clock, i was driving a couple of weeks ago when a message flashed up on the dash STOP ENGINE OIL PRESSURE FAILURE,had the car recovered to a garage and a pressure test confirmed the pressure was low, they fitted a new pump and pick up pipe and when they re-tested the pressure all was good but after driving for about 15 miles the same thing happened STOP ENGINE OIL PRESSURE FAILURE, got the car back to the garage and they checked the pump and it's fine so now when the car's cold the pressure is good but as it warms up the pressure drops, are there any known issues that could be causing the problem?.

i might ad that the engine still sounds sweet with a nice smooth tickover, sorry for waffling on but i'm lost for ideas.

If the pump is fine, the pickup tube mesh is clean and they cleaned the oil pan of debris, oil filter is new, the oil pressure switch is OK and measured pressure goes low once it warms up then it could be signs of doom.... if the pump is OK and the pressure is still low then there could be a blockage somewhere in the channels in the block or the bearings have quite a bit of play and let oil out. Which causes pressure to go.... as you seem to have issues once it's up to temperature I'd guess it's the latter.

would that be fixable with the engine in situ or mean the engine is beyond economic repair?.

How deep are you pockets?
If you're lucky it goes somewhere easily accessible, if you have bad luck it could be the big ends.... though you'd hear that if they are really gone.
