If you can pick up a used R for £22k or whatever the figure you're quoting, then good luck to you.  My GFV is £16k odd, and I'm more than confident it will be worth more than that when I come to trade it in.  It's an R, its the fastest Golf on the market at the moment.  They'll be plenty of boy racers looking to buy one in 3 years time!

Just look at the values for the R32 (mk 4 & 5) and the R (mk 6) - they're still worth decent money.  History tells us that there is nothing to be concerned about, and I don't think this thread will bother any R owner at the moment, they know what they've bought, and they know the value of the car.  Good luck if you can find one on the cheap though, hope its not one of those pikey versions off ebay!

Going back to used prices: when I phoned a few dealers earlier in the summer when VW hiked up the price before the announced the big spec changes to ask what was going on, I enquired with a couple of dealers that has sales people that I knew who were more likely to give me an honest answer.
Two dealers had a second hand R in stock at just below list and I asked out of interest how much money they had in the sale of the car (to gauge a likely offer price) versus what they'd give me as a new order.
Neither dealer had much flexibility in the price of the second hand cars but both would offer between 10 and 12% as a new order so long as it was in before the end of the quarter which was getting close at the time.

Not very scientific I know.
