I tried pressed metal plates and they don't look right on the mk7 to my eyes.
I much prefer my plastic plates.

I dunno, think a lot can depend on colour of the car.  Someone on the R forum has pressed plates and they look really good, but that's on an Oryx white.  Not so sure they'd suit a black car.  The search has begun.

I'm on the fence on that one. Mine came with dealer plates (Alan Day no less) and I immediately exported the car to Cyprus where it was fitted with pressed steel plates (white front and rear) which looked spot on with the car being white too.

When I got back I bought a set of legal UK pressed plates and fitted them and am constantly wondering if I should get a new set of dealer plates fitted.

I used to be quite indecisive, but now I'm not so sure lol.

Hi Mrs Booth! Here are 2 pics of my Carbon Grey Gti with pressed plates and carbon effect surrounds. I think they look good on a dark car and would look great on your R.

Now I think that plate surrounds look too fussy on the clean lines of a modern car. I much prefer plain plastic with with tiny BS and makers marks, screwed on tho' for easy of removal to clean behind.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Obviously show plates then. Most pressed plates are now manufactured to British standard

I've run pressed plates on my last 3 cars and never had a problem :afro:

That will, or should have been to do with the font or logo. You can get legal UK font pressed plates.

I had a set of German font pressed plates with a D badge years ago. I got pulled for them, but got away with a ticket as I swapped them there and then for a legal set that I kept in the boot.
