That lawn is a waste of good space

Surely there's enough room for a double garage to allow you to wash / detail without Mother Nature spoiling your fun

Very nice write up and pics Booth - actually made me seriously fancy an R for the first time. But I'm going to be good and resist - I want to have mine for at least 2 years, and perhaps I'll be happy to take it to 3 or 4... It depends how many pics you post I guess!

Love the pics Ms. B

That's an awful lot of metalwork between the two vehicles to wash!
I'd hate to think how long a full detail on the Beast would take?!!

Cheers Mr Ex.  Bonnie and Clyde make a lovely couple

As for your question.  I guess we'll never know how long it would take to detail the Beast.

Incommented to the other half that it was looking a bit filthy last week, so on Sunday he treated it to and Eastern European Special down in the supermarket car park.  They did a pretty good job of it. Apparently the car wash guy looked a bit dumbstruck when he asked for it to be cleaned, looked it up and down and doubled his price.

I would've done it for free.

Fab pictures Rebecca. Love the beast. Best way to protect the R.

There might be other DBP Rs and Rs in other colours, but yours is the best. A perfectly specced car.

Why thank you Asker. It's got everything I need, and a few fripperies I don't.

The Beast is my R’s personal bodyguard.  Beauty and the Beast.

Believe me, it’s been mooted more than once, but thus far, has fallen on (selectively) deaf ears!

We could easily fit a garage on the front lawn, but it would probably block out a lot of light from the house, and it’s not the lightest of houses anyway.

Course I could always just demand the actual existing ex garage back!!! I will continue to subliminally nibble away at his conscience.

Thanks frank.

It's a very good car.  I did consider going for a Mk7 GTI but decided to wait for the R.  It was worth it.  It's a big change coming from a Mk6 GTI, due to the MQB platform, much more so than I thought it would be.  I'll be keeping this for 3-4 years. There'll be a few pics over those years, no doubt.

You are good to resist. The GTD is a great car.

Got the chance to test the car out today on some very wet and greasy roads. Put it into ‘animal’ mode (race) and took a drive along very undulating and bendy country roads.  What a sure footed drive!  Velcro’d to the Tarmac. Corners chewed up and spat out with relish, and not a whisper of traction loss. The grip on the Contis in such wet conditions is superb. What a tyre, even on 19s!  Alternated between S and manual - manual offering more engagement, but both good in their own right in these conditions.

700 miles done now and can feel the car just starting to loosen and give up some of it's secrets.  Even the throttle pedal response seems improved, more receptive to foot command, or perhaps  I’ m just more accustomed to it and have adapted accordingly.  Either way, feels better and the R is opening up very nicely.

Now you're rubbing it in!

Been in the missus' A1 for most of the last week to get her some practice for her test - she drives to her work on a morning then I take over and carry on driving the next 12 miles.

I'm convinced the TDIs (and probably everything else VAG) has a run-in mode. Once the little A1 ticked over to about 630 miles (a smidge over 1000km) it seemed to take a shot in the arm (and get a little thirstier). Sure I had a similar experience in the GTD.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

You mean I'm rubbering it in!

Yeah, I reckon 636 miles (to be precise, lol) is the 'sweet spot', then there's a discernible surge in performance.

Very thirsty.  Car had a full tank at collection and today was the 3rd fill up I've done, so got through 3 tank fills in 15 days!  Showing an average 25mpg though. Mind you I remember my Mk6 being a bit of a petroleum alchy in the early days, then settled right down.

How's Mrs MH getting along with her driving practice?  Ready for the test?

Holy smokes 3 tanks in 700 miles
I did expect it to be not great but not quite that bad :embarrassed:
