I like your approach and you have cost me money, cornering bulbs have been ordered, I can't believe how poor the light colour is in your photo.

Before I order some led's it's two for the reversing and one for the boot? I would check myself but I haven't actually bought my car yet :)

Hello Bungleaio,

That's is correct, two for the reversing lights and one for the boot.

The set I have linked to for the reversing bulbs come as a pair which makes life easier :)

Great thread and it'll be interesting to see how this car develops.

I upgraded the cornering lights on my GTI almost as soon as I took delivery but haven't gotten round to slotting some new bulbs in the newer car yet after nearly four months! God I'm getting disorganised! Mind you, I had lots more space to mess about with the car at my old house and was forever outside either cleaning or fiddling about with it. Your pics have inspired me to dig the cornering light bulbs out of my garage at the weekend and get them fitted! In fact I might even get some new ones as yours look even closer a match than my old ones do to the xenons.

I'm 50/50 on changing my footwell lights from the white.

The LED boot light looks a must do though. I hardly ever use the boot but now know that an LED light will make the void much more attractive!!!

Glad you are liking the thread so far, it's dead easy the change the static lights over, I did it with a friend and it only took us 10 minutes.

The trickiest part is getting the new H7 bubs to click in correctly, they only fit in a certain way to some spring loaded clips so just remember the positioning of the old bulb when you take it out.

Just a quick heads up on the boot bulb you do need to bend the metal connectors in the housing to get a tight fit, the bulb is around 2mm shorter than the clips, but with a pair of plyers and a steady hand you can bend the clips towards each other and it fits like a dream.

Build Thread Update

I have bought some Osram Cool Blue Hyper H7 bulbs rated at 5000k which match the Xenon's much better.

Static cornering lights - Before

Static cornering lights - After

That looks so much better and am tempted to do this except when you read up on the Osram Cool Blue Hyper H7 5k bulbs it indicates that they are for off-road use only and are not legal in the EU for road use.

Is there potential here for getting pulled?

Yes, i'm with you on the H7's as they took just minutes to swap over on the GTI but when I was taking the bulbs back out at part ex time back in May one of them just dropped out of its holder when the rubber cap was removed as the spring clip wasn't 100% in correctly.
And thanks for a very useful tip on the boot light or I'd have thought they'd supplied the wrong bulb or even that I had a different bulb holder. I'll get the boot light on order in a while and see if I can find my old H7's before ordering the blue ones.

Technically there would be a potential but bear in mind these are just cornering lights so a) they aren't switched on very much when driving and b) they're angled into the corner so are less likely to dazzle anyone or even be noticed for their brightness or colour that much.
When you consider the dozens of cars you see driving around every day with one headlight or one tail light not working that never get pulled over you'd be very unlucky to get done for a cornering light that is tucked away like it is on a Golf. It's not even like it's in a fog light like on so many other cars - it really is tucked away in the headlamp unit.

Lovely cheers mate, I have ordered these too. I can't believe the rear lights are LED apart from reverse.

Another few of my mods have turned up this week!

For my last three cars I have always bought pressed metal plates and plate surrounds to bring some extra life to the front/back of the car, I found some unique surrounds on eBay and bought the pressed plates from eBay as well.

Plate Surround

Pressed plates

I also bought some different LED reversing lights to try out, I have taken some photos comparing them to the old LED bulbs, even though the new bulbs are slightly longer and wider they still fit in the rear light cluster.

Quite like those red footwell lights, thought it was red carpet at first, reminded me of my old Peugeot 1.9 GTI.
