Golf GTI Mk7 Active Cruise Control Standard?
« on: 04 October 2015, 08:04 »
I've been toying with the idea of a Golf Mk7 GTI DSG on and off for many years now. One feature I really like which is standard on Mk7 Golf Match is Active Cruise Control.
I seem to remember that for some reason this was not standard on a Golf GTI when they first came out?

Postings I've seen seem to imply that they are standard on new ones now?
If so, when did they become standard equipment?
I've been looking at VW used cars online and most do not seem to mention active cruise control in their specs...

Also Car-Net (Mirror Link/Android Auto) would be really nice too, and on a new car for 100 seems a no-brainer to tick. When was this an option and can it be retro-fitted cheaply otherwise?

I'm looking for a fun yet practical car for my 6 mile commute (no traffic one way, lots of traffic on the way back). Im thinking either this or a Polo GTI - if that provides a similarly loud exhaust note and Parps on DSG upshift, then that would do too!

Thanks

For the first wave of GTI and GTD demos that came to the UK in May/June 2013 (it was thought that they were Irish spec cars), they arrived without an ACC sensor. These were inevitably sold after their tenure as demo cars. There's very few of them out there and they'll be on a 13 plate.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Its easy to spot ACC on a Mk7... big cut out on the front grill with a ~4 inch square radar sensor in the hole.

If you can see a photo of the front of the car then you can tell if it has ACC.

Car-net/mirrorlink etc only became available in the UK with the MIB2 infotainment system which started to be delivered with new cars in the last month or so. (it was previously available in other countries!)

So far, it can't be retro fitted to UK MIB1 units, but some people are still looking at that problem ;-)

Just to add some more information, you will be able to buy the car-net activation code from your dealer sometime this month (according to German forums) even if the car wasn't spec'd with it when ordered.

This sounds really interesting! - I will wait for more information to come out about this...

Thanks guys for the head's up on what to look out for regarding Active Cruise Control...

Would someone be kind enough to explain Car-net to me please? I looked at the VW website but I really have absolutely no idea what it was talking about  What are the features/benefits? I don't have a smartphone but my OH has an iphone 5. If it does become available as a retro fit and it has a use then I would go for it. Assuming I understand it...

Carnet is basically a realtime data service provided by VW to your car using your mobile phone's data connection:

The most useful feature, probably, is a proper traffic data feed... the rest, well, who knows.

Thanks fredgroves, I watched the video explanation on that link (didn't notice that last night) and now have a better idea. Doesn't sound like much use to me, I can see what the weather is like via the windscreen, I always plan a journey in advance and for anything else my co-pilot can deal with it on her phone. I shall invest my money more wisely in crisps and beer.
