Non-PP GTI brake issues

Went through the 8.000km mark last week and apart from the front brakes, everything was fine on the GTI.

After some road trips (involving pretty step hills), the front brake pads began with a grinding noise that became more and more noticeable with each mile put on the car.  The rattle and judder can now be felt on the pedal, sort of sand on the disc surface, and the noise can be heard even with windows up and the radio on.

At VW the discs were cleaned but the noise kept coming, so I went to another shop and they told me that the pad surface was completely crystallised and brittle, so they had to remove them, polish the surface and coat the pad. The brakes remained about a hundred km noise-free before that thing reappeared and another polish was needed.

The front pads have been treated four times by now, but after a hard brake, even a short one, the noise comes again. There is also no warranty for the pads, it was just for the first six months and the car is almost nine months.

Has anyone heard something similar? Should I get ceramic pads to replace the OEM? Is it worth the PP brake kit upgrade (1200USD)?

Are you or have you tracked the car? It is possible that the brakes have overheated and destroyed the pads or even worse, warped the disks.

I haven't, although the roads here are quite brake demanding. The disks were also checked and seemed fine, no warping was detected. Seriously considering the PP brake kit, but due to COP-USD exchange rate, it is now almost 50% more expensive than usual
