Engine knock 1.8t mk4 golf gti
« on: 21 September 2015, 01:28 »
Hiya guys - I own an old t - reg golf which sounds like it's about to pack up on me!! There's a knocking sound coming from the engine - I actually thought it sounded like an engine mount was gone - as the knock only occurs when you accelerate to pull away or when accelerating after changing gears. It seems to be coming from the forth cylinder (or the far right one as you look at the engine) it sounds as though something is hitting the inside of the cover?? The car runs fine and sounds normal otherwise. I've shown a respectable mechanic who said he's never heard anything like it!! He said it might be a piece of turbo broken off or a ht lead breaking down?? Anyway I was going to take the rocker cover off tomorrow and take a look - any advice or suggestions much appreciated. I'm new on here so hi everyone and thanks for any advice in advance - cheers John

Get under the car and check the dogbone mount, chances are its that that's knackered. Especially if only under acceleration
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)
