15" Tyre choice
« on: 10 September 2015, 17:59 »
I've decided to go back to stock 15" rims from the 16" I'm running at the moment.
I'm a bit shocked after running 16" tyres that used to always cost so much more than 15" tyres, to find that what was a bog standard size (205-50-15) seems to be i, limited in choice and ii, bloody expensive now!

I think I've narrowed it down to either Continental PremiumContact 2 or Uniroyal RainSport 3.

Do any of you have experience with these, or suggest something else?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Rain sports.
contis are good but I wore em out quickly.
Uniroyals  last quite a bit longer.

Federal 595 rsr  are a great tyre. Had them on my m3. Not great in wet but dry they will just grip and grip.

Thanks for the replies.
That link takes me to a 16" tyre though?

What is the consensus on running 195 instead of 205?
Wheels are BBS RA 6.5Jx15 5x100 ET43 as below

195 is absolutely fine you wont notice the difference and save a few quid per tire.
Just don't mix them (on the same axle at least).
The Federal is not a bad tire, I just bought Avon sporty things for my A4 in 17" and I am pretty impressed with what I got for the price. My tire of choice for the A4 was the P zero but I did not have the cash mid month so got the Avons.
The Golf always ran well on Rain sports

I went for the RainSport 3 tyres in the end, 205-50-15.
They feel OK; I've only driven it back from the wheel refurbisher's so no real testing; already noticed they are more comfortable than the Toyo proxies 205-45-16.
Here are the refurbished wheels

and on the car

For those interested here are the details:
Tyres; Uniroyal RainSport3 205-50-15, £51.89 each (free delivery) from Tyreleader.co.uk; they are currently £50.19.
BBS Centre Caps Carbon with Silver Logo BBS 56mm, £47.49 for 4 (inc delivery) from PWM Motorsport.
Wheel refurbishment including fitting the tyres and balance, £230.00, rimtecrefurbs.co.uk based in Meopham Kent.
BBS wheels, 2nd hand from eBay £45 for all four, yes they were less than the price of the new centre caps!

Thanks for all your help,

Steve.
