Any idea what effect the limited edition has on depreciation over three years ? Does anyone know if the it was possible to obtain discount on the previous limited edition models ?

The Anniversary editions have always enjoyed strong residuals, I did very well in part ex with my ed30 and have recently been offered £16.5k for the ed35 (against a CAP value of £15.3k) which for a 3 1/2 year old car is pretty good imo

On both the ed30 and 35 I managed a decent discount when buying but did buy both used (6 months old) so couldn't comment on new discounts really

I think Volkswagen have made the model line-up t0o closely matched in terms of price and performance.
I'd say offer a decent standard spec on the GTI Clubsport, reduce the price of the Standard GTI / GTI PP and then increase the spec and price of the Golf R. :)

Evo "developes downforce over 60 mph" AC "claimed to provide it with true downforce at 75mph"

Can you get "true" downforce at a speed as low as 70mph? or is it a small reduction in lift at the rear axle?  Surely you would need a larger wing with a even larger angle of attack?  Also it would probably need a flat underside and a true diffuser with a ride height reduction so it actually can do some work.  A small cosmetic diffuser bolted onto a turbulent underside isn't going to do much.  I guess this must just be journos trotting out any PR that's presented in front of them, and to be fair VW are prone to a bit of BS.

The nicest part of this car by far is the interior. Externally, it doesn't do anything for me at all.

I think I paid around £24k for my Edition 30 in early 2007, one of the early cars - white, xenons, cruise and parking sensors

Of all the anniversary specials the Ed30 remains the one I liked the most.  I was holding out for an Ed40 to be something I would want to buy brand new and cherish but when I saw the pictures it didn't do anything for me.  Going down the Clubsport route is turning a Golf into something like a Megane Cup - not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

If as folk say it's going to be priced around what an R is then I'm not sure what niche this is going to fill. I guess being a limited edition will appeal - I once owned a Corrado VW Storm so there was always some good banter with regular VR6 owners

Looks smart in grey

My current GTi is grey and I adore it. Would like to upgrade in March but can't decide between the CS and the R. Not sure any really stand out looks wise but the under the bonnet it does. Hopefully the CS will bring R prices down. Tough decisions.
