It looks like a great car.  But why would you buy one of these when you can have a R for less (given the current reduction in prices)?

Be choosing the replacement for the GTD in March and as much as the Clubsport appeals the more assess it against the R the further move away from it and am back full circle to the R

The tempters over the R are the fact its a limited edition of the iconic GTI and with more pronounced styling because of.

Performance is obviously improved too from them reviews

So its a lot closer but not enough to sway me over the R when weight everything including cost up.

The Clubsport has actually tempted me away from the R.

I prefer the looks and its something a little more unique, especially with the limited production run.

Fair enough.  Was interested to here people's thoughts on why they'd pick the CS over the R when they're the same money.  Certainly looking forward to seeing it in the flesh, does look a very nice motor indeed!

Do we know how long the 'boost' button takes to charge?  Ie. how long after using it can you use it again?

Have not read the Evo review yet, but the wheels in the photos are the 18" std alloy offering, not Pretorias.  However nice find.

I thought these were the standard wheels?

Says in the evo article that 19" wheels are optional and come with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 sticky rubber (worth buying the car for these alone!) and this setup was the only choice for the press drive at Portimao Circuit.

Certainly look like Pretorias...

Worst fears confirmed, they are making it limited (means little to no discount) and the price is crazy compared to an R and the other offerings in the market, and I also don't like the 18's that are standard, meaning the 19's with Pilot Sports will be an expensive option.

Might start the hunt for an R now.

I hazard a guess I could go 8 secs quicker around the Ring with Cup 2 tyres and no HP increase.

It looks like I was wrong about 5 door, they may actually put a limited performance addition in a 5 door hatch set up..

There are mentions of the overboost being initiated by "kick down" so being as the test car was a manual then I'm still guessing it's initiated by the switch in the throttle pedal we all have to suffer already whether a DSG owner or not - full throttle depression equals overboost for 10 seconds.

As for the wheels - like with the ED30 for the Euro markets, they might get different options to the UK. Same as the current R gets several wheel options in different markets.
The ClubSport was pictured in pre-production guise wearing Pretorias so it's quite likely the Prets *could* be offered in the UK with the Michelin tyres as an expensive option. This indeed might make sense in the UK where it rains nearly all the time but rarely freezes for more than a few days of the year meaning we don't *have* to fit winter tyres. The Michelins I'd put in the 'dry use only' category really meaning in countries where they get proper seasons and do have to fit winter tyres by law it makes more sense to have a dry weather summer tyre and a crap weather winter tyre set up. We in the UK have our own dilemmas as far as tyres are concerned so probably just get a 'make do' option as standard and leave it to a purchaser as to where they want to go from there.
So the lightweight 18's kind of fit in with the ClubSport ethos as an all weather all use wheel and the upgraded wheel and tyre package fits in fully with the ClubSport being used for club sport (track use). The fancy 19" things on the show car might be a £1k option.

Any idea what effect the limited edition has on depreciation over three years ? Does anyone know if the it was possible to obtain discount on the previous limited edition models ?
