Is this Clubsport a replacement for the Edition 40?
It is indeed. It has little 40th Anniversary graphics as well as Clubsport logos.
I think VW have done a good job of making the 40th Edition a bit special and different.

Thanks for clarifying Exonian. I thought it might be but you never quite know with VW. Their ability to shoehorn another variant into the golf range makes me chuckle  Next up, the Golf 50SG (50 shades of grey edition aimed at frisky, 40 something, housewives). In exclusive grey obvs. Now there's a niche.

Sarcasm aside the Clubsport looks sweet. Let's see final spec and if it comes in 5 doors. What of the "boost" button they mentioned?
Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR
Past: MK7 GTI / DSG / WHITE / 5 DR

Boost is like a "push to pass" style mode when you put your foot down.
You get 10secs worth every 30secs if that makes sense.

Yep, confirmed by VW UK press release, 4 and 5 door and DSG and Manual.

Any update on the 5 door?  If it has 5 doors that will just be bizarre,

Sorry to be a kill joy, but a couple of unfortunate issues with internet forum speculation on this car. It isn't lighter (even though its called a club sport) it was never going to come with a roll cage despite people foaming at the mouth at the possibility, it won't have that flush stance that the press photos show, and it won't be in 5 door.

I would actually love to be wrong on all counts except the 5 door...

I have just found this gem of a photo of a 5 door GTI Clubsport form recent press drive in portugal.  I am so tempted right now!

Looks like the Pret's are an option too. Looks ace!

Have not read the Evo review yet, but the wheels in the photos are the 18" std alloy offering, not Pretorias.  However nice find.

First drive review?

Think this quote stood out more than the review

"when its production lines will start to gear up for the launch of the eighth-generation Golf."

Was under the impression that MK8 was 2018/19

It looks like a great car.  But why would you buy one of these when you can have a R for less (given the current reduction in prices)?
