Goodbye, my GTI!
« on: 05 September 2015, 14:52 »
Today I waved goodbye to my lovely Mk6 GTI.

Sold to Norman (Nor) on here, and now headed to it's new home in Scotland.   Very sad to see it go, but happy it's gone to a good home, Norman's a lovely, lovely guy to deal with.

Had a brilliant 3 years with the Mk6, starting here (first ever photos):

In between, there's been lots of great miles and quite a bit of this

And ending here, the last pics.  The end of a beautiful relationship!  Bye, bye GTI.....

....and now I'm stuck with this for a month or so

Bring on the R........

A testament to your loving ownership Rebecca! It looks just as fantastic the day it left as the day it arrived.

Looking forward to your photos of the R when it finally appears!

Does this mean we've lost you forever from the Mk6 section now?  :embarrassed:

Thanks Dan.

I actually think it looks better now than it did in the beginning, but yesterday (and today) are so overcast that the pics look a bit drab.

I'll mainly be in the Mk7 section but will always pop in here to see what's going on. Still love Mk6's so need to keep having a peep at some nice ones - hint, hint.......

And Norman (new owner) has promised to post a few pics of it against some stunning Scottish backdrops.

How is your lovely red GTI?

I'd imagine with all the work you put in it probably did look better, although as you say it's pretty overcast today. I expect it will look amazing against a Scottish backdrop! I really have to visit Scotland at some point in my car and experience some those great roads I keep hearing about.

My car is still puzzling me with it's deceleration rattle but is racking up the miles regardless (Now passed 62k). It desperately needs a clean after a lot of driving this week but I'm hoping to do that tomorrow when the weather will be better I hope!! Need to get stocking up on some supplies before the big pre-winter detail to be done soon. I'll be sure to get some pics up in the relevant section when that happens

I'm watching a nice set of Watkins Glen wheels on eBay at the min but to be honest with an engagement ring to pay off and the subsequent wedding to save for I can't imagine blowing a grand plus on them will go down too well so I may miss out unfortunately!

With said costs on the horizon, I'll be keeping the Mk6 for a while to come, as much as I would love to follow suit and upgrade to a Mk7 R! With that in mind I've been thinking about future maintenance and I'm thinking probably will have timing chain, tensioner and water pump replaced at around 80k, and then carry out a suspension refresh with new dampers, springs and bushes (possibly Powerflex all round) at about 100k. Currently downloading ETKA to find some part numbers for DCC dampers haha. Long way away yet but I have to think about this to stop me spending money on 'unnecessary' things like wheels :)

Hmm, new wheels or paying off the engagement ring?  Decisions? And that's only the half of it, there's the wedding ring to match it.   I guess the sensible thing to do is concentrate on your wedding, wheels can follow.

Yes, the big pre winter detail stocking up.  Anything new on your wish list, aside from the Gliptone?  I look forward to seeing the pics of your GTI in due course.

I've finally decided to buy that water filter.  I'm fed up battling hard water spots.  Will be buying it this week, but it won't get used until the R turns up.  I'll post a review in the detailing section when the time comes.  As for washing the Audi, I'm going to experience the novelty of taking it through an auto car wash.   It's been a few years since I frequented one of those!

Future maintenance costs are a sobering thought, but that doesn't stop you thinking about the fripperies such as new wheels.  Stay strong Dan, resist the call of the Watkins Glens.

Haha wheels or ring is an easy decision of it was just me involved! I think they'll have to wait like you say, plenty of time for them later.

Looking to try a few new products in the winter prep as well as stocking up on some bits that are running low. At the min I'm looking at trying out Gliptone Leather Cleaner, Gyeon Leather Coat, Poorboys Natural Look Dressing and maybe also cQuartz UK? Try and get some reviews up of each one as well.

Looking forward to the water filter review, I'd love to have one but it's a bit of a luxury rather than a necessity. I'm gonna be jealous of yours for sure! If only the R knew what a pampered life it's gonna lead in your hands then there's now way it would've taken so long to get to you!

12 and a half hours left on those Watkins ... Must resist!!!

Looks stunning Rebecca, the reflection on the side view photo is amazing. Norman is very lucky to own such a cherished car.

May I have first refusal on your MK7 when the time comes?

Audi inbetween?

The A3 is just a stop gap until my R arrives sometime in Oct.  As my R order has gone over 6 months (will be over 9 months by time it comes), I qualified for a free VW hire car.  Knowing the GTI was going in Sept, I asked VW to sort it.  I could have muddled by using one of my partner's company fleet vehicles (a truck!) but decided to take the hire car option.

I must remember to put diesel in it, and not petrol. Fortunately it's written in big letters on the fuel cap.

Thanks.  I will miss it greatly but am looking forward to having a month or so off car cleaning.

Haha!  I'll put you at the top of the list Blackmass for the R in about 3-4 years time.
