Beware scammers
« on: 24 August 2015, 16:04 »
In my search for my new car I came across an ad for a golf edition30. The seller sent a wealth of photo's including pictures of service book MOT's etc. The correspondence was going well (all by email) until he told me the car was in France! Now that's not a problem but a follow up email requested I conducted the sale through Amazon Payments and the car would be delivered to me with a 7 day refusal built in. Now I'm sure the legitimate Amazon Payment system works well but scammers refer you to an identical Amazon site controlled by them and that's when you say goodbye to your money. On further investigation it seems this is a fraud gang in operation and they target cars with a quick turn round. The actual car exists (ran checks) but who it belongs to is another matter. So if you have an unmodified edition30 DSG for sale and it's wheels are on English soil drop me a line.

Unfortunately all very common. Pistonheads classifieds regularly has recycled legitimate adverts but with crazy low prices and then the same payment/delivery scam.
