Used mk6 gti
« on: 24 August 2015, 13:30 »
Looking at a mk6 gti to buy it has 35000 miles do they suffer from leather wear on steering wheel and dsg gearstick also handbrake button has worn as well, all history checks out just concerned about the worn leather, seems a bit excessive for the mileage. Thanks

I have seen GTI's with 70k miles and leather on handbrake wasn't worn and steering wheel wasn't too bad.

how bad is it? Might just be previous owner had very dirty hands lol

If the ECU has not been changed you can check the mileage using VCDS. Generally the GTI resists wear quite well. The only area I know that can wear is the seat side squab from when the driver gets in and out. The usual advice applies for second hand cars- if in doubt wait for the next one to turn up.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

All depends how the car has been treated, but if a car of that mileage has been treated half decently, I wouldn't expect much wear on the steering wheel or gearstick and handbrake at all. Maybe the driver wore a lot of rings and these have caused the wear??  Mine has nearly 30k mikes and absolutely no wear at all but then it's been looked after.  As said, it's normally the driver's seat bolster that takes the brunt of it. .

I would be very wary. Especially with the hand brake been worn out so badly. Another good place to check is the seat bolsters.

Mine has 65k on it and not much sign of wear. I would ring previous garages from the service book and check the milage. Just for piece of mine.

HPI VIN check. Check both VINS on vehicle. VAGCOM it. Check for signs of any alterations in the engine bay. View another and take a picture of the VIN plates, if the other cars look any different walk away.

Sounds dodgy to me. Is the price too good to be true? If so it probably is. MK6 GTIs are a desirable car and you can sell them for the asking price all day long

It's not cheap by any means and I've got an independent vw specialist to go check it out as its at a dealers round the corner from them.

Wear on all those parts seems dodgy. As said before seat bolster takes a bit wear. Check out the pedal rubbers you didn't mention them. Seems to me that the previous owner/s seem to have had rather a leather " Fetish"
Audi S1 gone, awaiting 1.5tsi r-line, pan roof, led lights front and rear, active dash, 18" jurva alloys and a dealer fitted Oettinger roof spoiler in tornado red.

Does seem dodgy....I wonder if car has sat for a while..with a water leak..and damp caused damage to leather parts? Or perhaps a mouse got in and had a nibble of the leather. Lol can make up any story...

OP - is it from a VW dealer?
