i agree, this is a disgrace.  There must be a customer protection service in the UK, there's one in Cyprus and it takes care of stuff like that most of the times so i'd imagine there'd be something similar in the uk.  hope it all turns out well mate.  more importantly though i hope your health is good now

Case law states that a car should be free from detects for the first 6 years of its life

Equally you need to be dealing only with the supplying dealer. If you have finance on the car then contact your finance company too

Send a well worded, detailed and reasonably polite letter (registered Royal Mail - not email) expressing your disappointment to Paul Willcox, M.D. of VW UK. Would not normally start barking up the top of the tree but think your circumstances justify.

I would use that tactic as a last resort. You got to follow the proper channels first

My missus works for Trading Standards and deals with issues like this on a regular basis

I'd normally agree but if someone really told him that engine failure can be expected after three years than that shows a serious attitude problem in their customer support and that should be highlighted to someone higher up - dealer or low ranks at VW won't piss in their own tea

Im hearing of this more and more now, i really hope you get it covered by VW. At that mileage 3 VW services is more than enough.

What exactly is the preventative cure for this? What parts are required, are they upgraded and how big a job?
