R delivery times
« on: 05 August 2015, 10:47 »
I have been to 2 different VW garages, 1 said lead time for an R delivery is 14-16 week - but the salesman was not their 'R' salesman who was on holiday????, the second said due to high levels of orders delivery for Rs is currently 6-8 MONTHS for new orders.

Any one know the real current delivery times for a new built to order R and if any options would slow the delivery times.

At 6 months you never know what changes or new releases will be made, especially with the release of higher powered GTis and R400 due next year

If you're getting a vanilla spec car then delivery should be reasonably quick. Once you start adding options the wait increases. Booth and monkeyhanger to name two have had and still have a wait for an r. To be honest I don't think it's acceptable for 6-8 months when bmw can do you a factory build any spec in 6-8 weeks.

Pretty much as mcmaddy states:

Basic spec R should be as your salesman said 3/4 months unless you are lucky enough to grab a reallocated cancelled order slot, which may be quicker.

There appears to be a supply issue with the optional 19" Pretoria wheels which has caused lengthy delays so you might want to think about that.  That said, some cars specced with this option are now being built.

And then there are a handful of R orders (with the Pretoria wheels) with a seriously long wait - mine included.  I ordered in Jan but still have no idea of when to expect it.  The earliest it could come now is Oct which would would have meant an 8 month wait, but it's quite likely to be longer.  Another person who ordered similar spec as me on the same date has been given a provisional estimated arrival just prior to Xmas, so that would be 11 months!

I was in VW a few weeks back and chatting to the girl there, she said that the average wait now for an R was 8 months which is in line with what the second person told you.

Food for thought!

There is no way I would wait 8 months for a new car unless it was something very very special and the R doesn't fall into that category. There must surely be either unallocated cars in the system or cancelled orders that you can grab.

I ordered an R Estate at the beginning of June.  Had a recent call from the lease company that it's progressing well and is expected at the dealers in early September... so 14-16 weeks for a basic spec sounds about right.

No options apart from metallic LSG.

TBH I'm pleasantly surprised and was preparing to hang on to my GTD for a while longer
Tornado Red GTD ordered 25th April, confirmed BW34. Built sometime in BW36, now in the UK and delivered 27/09 :-)

8 months for any VW, especially a Golf is ridiculous in my view.. why do VAG take so long ?!

As someone said earlier, pretty much any BMW factory order is 6-8 weeks tops..

Good job the R didn't make it onto your shortlist Drisser.  What is your shortlist now, you've lost me, lol!

8 plus months is utterly ridiculous.  Only problem is I don't want a BMW, I actually do want an R!!!

yep good point..

no idea any more what is on my short / long list.  Audi dealer has annoyed me by offering rubbish money for my A3 part ex against an S3 and outright refused to give an underwritten price against an RS3 order because its too far away..

Which is a fair point but given I bought the car from them as an approved used, you would have thought they could say, "based on x mileage and in the same condition we will give you £x next March".  Understand they don't want the risk but if you are ordering a £40k + car....

so now I am going off the idea of an RS3, or an S3 because an S3 wont cost much less to run than an RS3..

dresser, my dear chap. Just forget about VAG cars. Lousy discounts, lousy dealers especially Audi, massive wait times especially for a Golf R, which I do think is an excellent car but only as a cheap lease. I have at long last begun to like mine a lot and about time too.

Go and get yourself a BMW: M235i, M135i, 330d sDrive, 335d xDrive or a 340i sDrive. All great cars, great discounts and you can get a factory order within 6 weeks! We did. IMO, the best Premium make.

I am patiently awaiting an email from my BMW dealer for their best offer on a 330d..  Hadnt really thought about 335 d as it is X drive only.. have you driven one ?  is it not a bit spongy - I drove a 430d X drive to test the suspension and it was a bit soft.. on my extended drive the 330d S drive I thought was the perfect mix of comfort and handling..
