Folding door mirrors - speed dependent?
« on: 04 August 2015, 22:31 »
Couple of times recently when on narrow country roads and I see an HGV coming towards I've turned the switch to fold the mirrors in (and held my breath ) but nothing happens not really looked at my speed but reckon about 50mph.

Driving at about 20mph they fold every time.......

If they are regulated by speed can this be adjusted by VCDS or is this going to be my first warranty issue?

Jesus that must be a hairy moment. Folding door mirrors at 50 with a HGV coming at you. Personally I would just use the extra time it took to fold the mirrors to brake lmao.

In response to your question I have no idea, never folded them in over 5mph but would be an interesting test. If you haven't got a response by the morning I'll try it on the way to work and let you know.

Yes you can't fold them in at speed. I think it's only below 8 or 10 mph if that.

The search function is your friend ;-)

Vehicle speed needs to be below approximately 30mph for it to work on the move though. I've had no luck finding the threshold speed in vcds/vag com as would like to increase.

Who needs the search function when I have you??

I searched "folding mirrors" got 3 pages with most posts d/d 2013 and saw nothing relevant

Thanks for confirming.

Don't you want to be able to fold them in to reduce drag and improve fuel economy?  I will try eco mode tomorrow and if it doesn't fold them in I will be complaining to VW.
