R drivers acknowledging each other?
« on: 03 August 2015, 08:25 »
Firstly, apologies to all other drivers for the subject, no intention to single out

Travelling last week up the A1 and another lapiz blue R pulls alongside, gives an approving nod, thumbs up, and then nails it up the road.

Anyone else experienced appreciation from another R driver?

Well, (real) Beetle drivers have waved to each other since, well, the period when I owned one in the days before electricity ;-)

Bikers also nod to each other...

But I've never heard of this from any other form of motor transport but I guess unless you own one, you'd never notice.

Yeah, happens all the time in mine. I do return the acknowledgment. It didn't happen in my GTI, I got a funny look, kinda like 'why do you have a GTI, mine it meant to be the only one around here grrrrr' sort of look lol

Spirited A/M-road drives usually end with a thumbs up or flash of the lights goodbyes as you get off, doesnt matter what kinds of VAG car it is.

Only the last week I had a Mk4 V5 and new Polo GTI (very nice front lights btw, I am quite jel) in two separate occasions give me the thumbs up or flash.

That said, mk7 owners seem to be less inclined to have any kind of camaraderie, but I suppose its too new to be solely in the hands of people who like cars and have a sense of humour etc.

I always have a look when I see an R, and give them a flash or a thumbs up - but unfortunately most just look at you like I'm mad   Have had a couple of thumbs up back though!

I think its a great thing to do!  Alfa drivers are the best for this, doesn't matter which version you have they all appreciate each other; 9/10 times they used to respond to me or vice versa

Not an R:R acknowledgment as such, but I pass a white R 3-4 times a week on my way to work and we give each other a knowing glance each time.  There appear to be 3 Rs in my neck of the woods and I've spoken to 2 of the owners but never the white R man.

No such occurrence yet as it seems 'I am the only R in the village!'

I did post about the same thing in the 'off topic' section a couple of months back but ironically got no response.

I was driving home this afternoon pulling off the M6 when I hear a toot of a horn. I look over and see a 'white van man' (no offence if you are reading this BTW) looking over and givings me the thumbs up. I reciprocate with a slightly puzzled look and a thumbs up.
Now he's either mistaken me for someone else or he's a fan of Golf gti's?

 It made me smile anyway.
