windscreen replacement
« on: 31 July 2015, 14:39 »
grrrrrrr.

So title say it all really, driving home last night and a giant stone/small rock bounced off a truck and planted straight on my windscreen leaving my me with a foot long crack on the drivers side.

I know I can call auto glass to sort it. Are they the best people?

5 weeks into ownership of my R and I had a buggered windscreen. Autoglass did a perfect job (that may have been because I was watching the job getting done!). My rain and light sensors are working as they should after the job was done.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I had mine replaced (can't remember who) but they didn't replace the gell pack(mucks up the rain sensor) so make sure it has been replaced

Autoglass do most of the insurance jobs by default, the fella that did that mine had a roll of the gel stuff, unrolled a bit and cut some off to use.

I also had mine replaced by autoglass in January and they've done a top job. Fair enough the guy hasn't replaced the gel pack, he reused my existing one but took care to not touch it when he removed the light sensor form the  casing on the screen. Not had any issues with the sensor whatsoever, works same as new so I guess it comes down to who works on your car.

Autoglass replaced the screen on my gti a few months back & I have to say the workmanship was rubbish , completely misaligned with screwdriver marks around the edges , I would have complained but the car was being traded in a week latter so didn't bother.

Here are some pics ,the first one being the gti with big gaps at the bottom

2nd pic of how it should look on my R

I had mine replaced today, my insurance covers the cost without excess if I use Silvershield windscreens. Turned up on time, 35mins to replace( not because they were rushing, but because they knew exactly what they were doing with everything they touched) and my car is absolutely spotless. No damage to surround, testing the lights and wipers before they left.

Also randomly, I mentioned that I got an occasional buzzing noise at 2500rpm and I thought it was the sound actuator. The notices the bolts that holds it on actually touch the base of the windscreen, they added 2 foam pads on the bolts and for the first time my car is completely silent from stupid buzzing noises.

Now that's going the extra mile

Certainly worth keeping them in mind if you need it replaced
