Warning-DSG Autobox Remapping Con
« on: 30 July 2015, 08:47 »
Guys,

Watch out for this & pls don't do it (your choice of course)

Without actually removing the gearbox ecu and mapping on the bench with the correct software or sending it away no autobox or dsg can be remapped via the obd.  Pls do not be lewd in by the "Conbox" that is being imported in from China for about £3 or less but is being sold as an auto gearbox remap for upwards of £800!  All this box does is load a canbus or signal blocker onto your car which then prevents the gearbox ecu communicating with the engine ecu.  In layman's terms it allows the gearbox to do exactly as it wants without any safe working limits!   So the gearbox will match the full torque limit of the engine giving the impression that the gearbox has been remapped, which it hasn't.  So if the car is remapped then the gearbox will just match the torque output which is extremely dangerous as our dsg boxes are limited to 400NM.

The conbox is the white box in the picture although there are several on the market in different disguises & colours.

Ouch!

I've seen those advertised I think, aren't they supposed to lock to your ECU or something?
how did you find out about the dodgy side of them?

Pretty shocking if that's what they do and that's what they cost to buy!

Well purely by research, my previous car was a E63 V8 6.2 merc with the later MCT gearbox.  Due to the design of the gearbox being totally wet clutched they suffer from a kick in the back feeling when changing down from 3rd - 2nd as you approach a junction etc.  It is well documented and despite a full gearbox software update the problem remained.  So being an engineer I went off to try and fix something that Merc couldn't and started to research on gearbox remapping and stumbled across these companies & little boxes.  After enquiring and getting the price of £800.00 I decided to continue my research and contacted 2 well known mapping companies tech support departments for there input.  This is when the whole thing erupted the companies concerned sent me pictures and then advised of exactly what these boxes do.  By loading a canbus or data blocker onto your car it prevents specific communication between your engine ecu and the gearbox tcu which therefore allows the gearbox tcu to do exactly what it wants without any control or limits.  This gives the impression of a remap because everything has changed from a driving perspective however it also allows everything to operate at max without any safe working limits, very scary.  The boxes are generic and are not even car specific so every box has the same thing loaded on it, bit like a computer virus.  To remove is difficult and can be expensive as the box has no removal procedure, apparently it is or was one of the largest mapping scams going on.  So there you go I guess you could say that if an auto gear box / dsg can be remapped so easily then how comes the major companies etc don't offer the service?  It only seems to be provided by so call garages / mappers.  Nothing from Superchips or Quantum???

In addition it would appear that the other forum member who commented on my other post has now declined to reply after I asked specific questions.........

That's not gonna end well. But just for the record the DSG box can handle well in excess of 400NM torque. Mines been running at around 430 for the past 6 months with no issues.
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

I dare say it has via an engine remap tho so any actual tcu limits will still be in place

That's quite a change in your vehicle type Mr Prime, from a sh!t kicking V8 Merc to a Diesel Golf (albeit a pretty decent Diesel Golf with bags of useable torque) so no wonder you're looking at enhancing the engine performance somewhat.
So you have S&S to try and disguise the fact you no longer have a huge V8 under the bonnet?

I've been flashing software to DSG ECUs for years both through the obd port and the data port on the front of the mechatronics unit. I've also seen the factory maps and the changes made to them so not sure where you're getting this info from? Unless you're talking specifically about the DSG in the Mk7, I've not done one of those yet so not sure of the limitations.
I can believe these "con boxes" are around though. China will always find a cheap dirty way of doing things. :lipsrsealed:

Yes, this is a specific problem to the latest generation cars, none of the big boys can map the DSG yet and OP has caught the smaller fish with their trousers down here with their cheat remapping.

In response to the above.

Worth mentioning the company that claims they are manufacturer of this tool  is Heitmann Technologies , formerly Chipped UK.

Simple Google will reveal all about the owner. He has a reputation on various forums from Passion ford/RS BB and many other sites.

He goes by many names, Trubador , Jason Corcoran , Jason Heitmann, and jayson. Watch out for this guy.
He started his career ripping of chips back in the day, was alleged to have taken Ahmed's RS chip, then copied and sold them from his Ebay account, was caught out, denied everything, and received  a huge backlash in the tuning community resulting in him changing his name and moving house.
All this is documented in the various forums along with his biro drawn dyno graph! I kid you not, this guy is a class act.

And yes I did create an account just to provide this info as its here to protect our forum members from scrupulous characters and con men alike.

There is a great review of him on baby BMW, Google Jason Heitmann baby BMW http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=75612&start=105

Here's a link to the said con box, which I'm told on good authority is a rip off of another system.

My recommendation would be to Stay clear guys.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's not here before long, trying to play down these claims or even try to get them removed. Make your own minds up and judge this on the available facts.

Jason Heitmann Name changed again to Christopher Steven, of Sauber EU , and eBay accounts set up, now selling HHO carbon Engine Cleaning machines which are re fabricated jewellery flame polishers from China with an rep of £30-£150, reselling them for £999+!
