Removing under seat drawer?
« on: 28 July 2015, 22:02 »
No, not a desperate weight saving effort, but I really could do with a simple way of getting my under seat drawer out.
Either that or can someone lend me a dog with a very long tongue?

I have a friend who runs a (gluten free) baking company who left me some chocolate brownies in work.
I put said brownies in the under seat drawer to keep them cool but during the trip they fell out of the bag and crumbled a bit in the drawer.
If I can get the drawer out I can give it a proper clean.
Failing that I guess I'll have a free chocolate orange flavoured car air freshener scent and possibly some free anti biotics soon too...

I'm guessing there'll be some tabs to feel up and push in on the sides while pulling the drawer out. Failing that, pushing the sidewalls in a bit while pulling the drawer (as you would for the little cubby by the steering wheel) might do it. Best to have the drawer pulled out as far as possible and feel where the resistance is.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Won't a long hose vacuum attachment reach said crumbs?  Or are they all melted into the drawer?

Are these under seat drawers standard now (minus the brownie crumbs of course)?  Are they under both driver and passenger seats?  On  the Mk6 I specced the storage pack to get them. Total waste of time and money IMO, as I always found them to be a strange size, not quite big enough for anything really.  I now rarely put anything in them as I can't stand anything rattling around.

The brownie crumbs would drive me mad and I'd have to get them out.  My cat has a freakishly long tongue if that any use  They must surely unhook somehow perhaps as MH says or maybe you have to lift and pull out a bit like fridge/freezer drawers?

The things that can happen.....

If you can't get the drawer out then maybe a soak with mild detergent and a a wet vacuum?
Failing that the local Poles.

I hope you get it sorted Exonion, I really do but at the same time it's one of the funniest things I've read on here in ages. The detail you gave just made it better.

Thanks for the advice and sympathy so far.

I'm not sure where any tabs would be, I did have a fiddle with the drawer squeezing it and wiggling it trying to find any hidden tabs but just ended up with plastic drawer lubricant all over my fingers!
Not nice when you're wearing clean clothes and the nearest tissue is deep in your pocket...
So I have a slightly greasy phone and trousers now too.

The Hoover will be my next step but they're putting the roof on the house opposite me at the moment so it's like a war zone in the road. I was hoping to just get the drawer out and give it a whack or two.

If you could post kitty to me Mme B I'd be hugely grateful! Hope she's got a sweet tooth!

And yes indeedy, on the sporty models we have free drawers that have nice (crap) carpets glued in them as standard. Very useful for transporting small amounts of cake but not good for much else. Not even big enough to get the service wallet in.

I would endeavour to post the long tongued kitty but have you ever tried to wrestle a cat into a Jiffy bag!!!

Maybe the drawers on the sportier models are for stashing all the speeding tickets

All this trauma for a bit of cake which hasn't even got good 'ole gluten in.  But good luck with your brownie crisis, here's hoping your car will soon be cake free!

I'm sure you only get the drawers if you spec poverty cloth. You don't get them with leather due to the motor for the electric seats. Not sure if it's still the case though.

Hmm, interesting.  I'm having leather - so you mean I might miss out on the oh so useful drawers?  What a disappointment!  Where on earth am I going to keep my gluten free brownies now

On a serious note - anyone with leather confirm it comes sans under seat drawers?  I won't miss them.

It would be a bit odd though since they managed to squeeze drawers in Mk6's with leather (if you specced storage pack), so it can be done.  Doesn't interfere with anything so far as I know.  And that's with the Bluetooth module under the drivers seat, and Dynaudio box under the passenger seat.    What motor?  The one for operating the lumbar adjustment?

I don't think the MK7 has electric lumbar support. That was dropped after the MK6.
