Full Wiring loom 8v vs G60
« on: 28 July 2015, 13:36 »
Considering buying a full wiring loom to replace the rapidly deteriorating one in my 8v. There are a couple of G60 ones on ebay (who knows why) and was wondering if there were any wiring differences between a bog standard 8v and a G60?
It's a mk2. Fill it, drive it, enjoy it.

Surely G60 ones will be for LHD shells?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I'm sure you will let me know how dumb the following comment is but; wont that just mean it is a little longer? (Or shorter actually... shorter would be bad)

Pretty sure there will be some differences between the two. A G60 loom measure boost not air flow and has a lambda sensor, so would need some splicing/blanking. The bigger difference (75% on this) is the plug that goes into the ECU would need the pins pulling and re-arranging to suit the CE2 ECU rather than CE1 ECU which is what the G60 management runs. I think I've got that right but if there's any guru's who can confirm?!

......also may involve some fusebox fiddling, just depends on how you would use the loom. Have you not thought of getting a new loom made up?

Cheers brighouse that's exactly what I was after!

I hadn't thought about getting one made up, it sounds expensive! Full looms on eBay run at about £100...

Only fit a G60 loom if you're fitting a G60 engine!

I sold my 8v gti loom for 40quid and it took about a year.. Put a wanted ad up, someone will have one from when they did an engine conversion..

Next question lads, what about an 8v mk3? Many differences? A lot more people breaking them (obviously), which makes it a lot easier to get your hands on the wiring...

EDIT: or a 16v mk2 for that matter...

A mk3 8v loom should fit its pretty much the same engine. However there is something lurking in my brain somewhere about swapping to a mk3 loom, can't remember for the life in me what it is tho. Something to do with which way around the engine you wire it up ??? I'll have a look at my random notes ive got lurking about...... get bk to ya!!!
