New Golf R offer.(Opinions please?)
« on: 24 July 2015, 22:21 »
Today I have been offered a brand new Lapiz 5dr R for £29,252. (No other options on it other than the paint)

Is this  as good as it gets do you think? Its in stock at a VW main dealer,I could have it on Tuesday.

I specced one up on DTD and the same spec comes in at £27,984.

The stealer says they cant do any better than the above and DTD struggle to source cars anyway and they wont get one before Christmas if at all (probably not at all-they would say that wouldn't they?)

What sort of deals have other members managed please similar, worse or better?

Thanks!

(Oh yes, trade value on my current GTi was a bit low tbh as well-Webuyanycar offering me more!?)

You can get 12% off the car and any options you lavish upon it, but you will be waiting a while for a new order with a broker. You have to decide how much value you give to jumping the queue. You're looking at a £2833 discount, which amounts to 8.8% (assuming we're talking manual here). Personally i'd be wanting more off than that if the want it registered before Sept for sales targets.

If they are screwing you on your p/x too then i'd dispose of that by other means.

You've answered your own question by the sounds of it.
You can get one on Tuesday for £29,252 or wait until Xmas time and get one for £1268 cheaper. Its only you that can make that decision.

Is there an option you would have preferred on the car?
Is the car you can get on Tuesday brand new or pre-registered?
Are you in a position to change cars just now or would a few months wait help?

Your dealer is just telling you scare stories re DTD and struggling to source cars. All they do is give your business to a particular main dealer who then orders the car like ever other dealer up and down the country!!

I'd go back, sit down with the dealer and say you're willing to sign there and then for an extra £1000 off (if you really want one immediately). It's amazing how a seemingly ridiculous/cheeky offer can be taken up by a dealer when the promise of a signature is there. In 5 weeks time, that car is going to look 6 months old - you know it and the dealer knows it.

Thanks for the replys, yes its a manual, unregistered one.

He didn't seem willing to go any more,I wanted it for 28k,I would have gone for it at that I think.

He was also giving me the old its got to be before the end of the month at this price its no longer available at this money.

The "Golf event"£750 dealer contribution for a PCP was also built into this discount not on top so thats a non event really?

I had intended to take the PCP and pay it off via a cheaper method within 14 days to get the £750 but that's a bit of smoke and mirrors I think.

If you did take the PCP is the settlement the amount borrowed plus a few days interest BTW does anyone know?

You have 14 days from signing the finance docs to 'withdraw' from the agreement, you will then only incur daily interest charges from the time of signing to the time of withdrawal, VWFS will then give you a further 30 days to pay the outstanding balance by other means

Make sure you act within the 14 days and don't allow the agreement to start and then subsequently settle the agreement as you will be hit with much higher interest and early settlement figures, I've withdrawn from 2 VWFS agreements in order to gain finance related incentives without any issues

Cheers,so is it just the amount borrowed then? (plus however many days interest?)

Yes,

You'll be talking about a fiver a day in interest. I've ordered an A1 for the missus on PCP to get the £500 deposit contribution. It will be settled ASAP, I have the money sitting in the bank for it. An easy £500.

If you buy a £29k R, and there's £750 deposit contribution on top (which there isn't in this case, and you also put down £3k deposit of your own, the financed balance is £25250. If you request a settlement, VWFS will be looking for you to pay £25250 to settle, not £26000.

If I were you, i'd look to find out how long the dealership has had the car. If it's been sat there a month then you're in a better position if they need that car registered and sold before Sept 1st.

That car will have likely been ordered before the April/May price rise that added around £600 to the list price, but they're selling it based on current RRP. If they want that car sold before Sept, and you're willing to buy before Sept, you need more off. Alternatively, if they can put off registration until Sept 1st (if you're willing to wait), i'd do that. Down the line, a 15 plate car will be worth £1500 less than a 65 plate car, it's effectively 6 months older in the eyes of the buying public. If you're PCPing and keeping  the PCP to the end of term, then a very late 65 plate will still have the promise of the GFV on your contract, but you may well see less "equity" in p/x value as a result.

Gtiless, do you know whether that car is post BW22 spec? If so then the price isn't unreasonable for an immediate delivery but I'd push for near top book price on your current car to even the deal out. Get a proper CAP valuation of your car rather then a WBAC quote.

The dealership will be well aware of their sales targets and whether or not they can shift an in stock car in time for the bonus trigger (assuming that's what they're aiming at). Let it run towards the end of the month maybe and see if they get itchy.

Depending on the age of your part ex all you can do is balance up the maths between having the new car in your hand now versus any likely repair costs on your old car and its likely depreciation (which will speed up the nearer it gets towards Christmas then slightly recover around March depending on what it is); then bear in mind your new car will also depreciate very rapidly in that same six month order period. You might find a new order gets built quicker if you don't spec Pretorias (assuming you're dead set on an R?).
A dealer knows they can command a reasonable price on an 'in stock' desirable car with a long waiting list, even versus a broker deal through their business fleet department which therefore comes (generally) with a worse part ex proposition. So if going solely through the retail side of the dealership then the best way to slant the figures slightly is by presenting your part ex in excellent condition and pushing for the best possible price on that. It's all in the cost to change figure at the end of the day.

There's no perfect solution, it's just trying to get the best deal at the time you're ready for the move.

Thanks for your thoughts, Yeah im going to just wait and see if they get twitchy and call me.

If they sell it they sell it, Im not that arsed really! If they want/need to sell it to me they are going to have to do a really great deal. Also come the 31st July the "Golf event" starts so maybe an "extra" £750 PCP contribution could be had then? You never know.

How can you tell if its post BW22? I think the 4 motion badge on the centre console was the new design but I cant be absolutely sure?
