Incompetent VW 'technician'
« on: 24 July 2015, 19:55 »
I am Livid, the coolant bottle in my car is completely empty. I saw a leak yday but silly me thought nothing of it.

Let's back track, car had a light error come up. Took it in and VW Birmingham diagnosed as a software issue. Which they sorted under warranty. Whilst there I thought I would mention a niggle I had the break pedal felt a bit weird. They promptly diagnosed as a brake servo that needed changing. They ordered the part from Germany and it arrived last week. After a few calls I managed to get it booked in for Tuesday.

So it goes in to Birmigham VW on Tuesday 8.30 in the morning. Get a call at 4 sorry we haven't been able to get the job done as  the DPF was too warm to work on.  Bs springs to mind but they'd given me a polo which I was enjoying so no fuss caused. Next day they call and say we haven't been able to finish due work priorities I saw red and said I will discuss this tomorrow but not happy.

Anyway collected yesterday brakes feel better much better. Got it home hour later dad tells me your car is leaking summat. Having looked at it felt like coolant but naively didn't check any further. Drive the car around today. As I start driving whilst I'm taking the family out and the coolant light comes on flashing in red. Go straight back home and park up call AA. Technician says there is a leak behind the engine block. You can see where it has leaked. AA guy says it's a sealed Unit and the leak is due to VW's incompetence they should have checked for leaks as they would have taken the bottle off when getting to the servo.

My problem is that I am due to drive to the south of France next Saturday and I need this sorted.

Been told to top the coolant bottle with water and get down to Birmingham VW and kick up a stink first thing in the morning.

Anyone else had this kind of incompetence from VW

VW = Very Waynekerr!

They are clueless clots and a worse than useless bunch of baboons. A sick joke.

I have had a few niggles with my car and had to fix everything myself. All I borrowed was their tools. They are a bunch of tools.

VW Service Departments are generally pretty rubbish IMO.

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

Go BMW M135i. Less hassle than VAG, though car is ugly as sin. Audi S3? Nice car though the nasty dealers are a given and the techs are just as incompetent as VW.

Buggered, every which way we go!

You say that as if BMWs are built like Rolls Royces, the sad truth is that reliability issues and poor service is across all marques. Go on a BMW forum and you'll find someone else who's drawn the short straw. Buying an S3 just puts a different badge on the same car, fixed the same way.

Sad truth these days is that being a technician rather than a mechanic involves following comprehensive instructions and not looking for other things - they're "fixing" your car like someone buys a Lego Star Wars set and builds an X-wing by following the instruction book to the letter!
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

UPDATE

VW techie diagnosed in his brumie accent 'can't see a leak'. I go in the garage say look I saw purple/pink  liquid on my drive I'm telling you it's leaking.

He lifts the ramp to see one of the pipes has a whole and its leaking. New pipe needed can't order until Monday probably won't have the car back until thurs. I leave Friday

Honestly feel like going out and buying an old golf when they made proper cars my L plate corrado had less issues when I had it. Only thing I did was have a service

Don't make em like they used to

This dealership do not have larger cars. Polo and ups galore. I said I want a equivalent golf on Monday and I want to speak to the centre manager on Monday

I'd agree with that absolutely.

It doesn't matter what car I've had over a great number of years, the service from the dealer is at best adequate, more often than not sub-standard.

If you get a lucky run its because you've found somewhere who has a decent guy working in the workshop. That same decent guy won't be there very long because after breaking his balls his employer will fail to reward him... either that or actually punish him for being too good (yes, I've actually seen that...)

I know we'd all like to think that our pride and joy goes in to be hand fettled by people who are absolutely experts and who desire for us to get swift and accurate service, but actually, it doesn't look like that's the intent...

Is definitely agree this s my first 'new'car so the only time I have used Techie at a dealership. My mechanic so much better.

This guy doesn't know if they have to take the coolant system part to get to the servo

Being an authorised dealer just means you have a captive market.

You'd kind of imagine that the manufacturer would punish under performing dealers to protect their reputation, but it seems the only thing which can threaten their franchise is not paying the franchise payment monthly/annually or not buying enough stock (notice I didn't say selling stock, just buying it!)

Like so many things, you imagine these guys are setup to serve the customer, when actually their driving factors are utterly different.
