Audi RS3 - Bargain ? Discuss !
« on: 22 July 2015, 15:12 »
Saw an RS in the flesh today for the first time at local Audi dealer.

Sepang blue with red calipers.  All I can say is wow - understated aggression.  Looked really stunning, and their demo had the super sports seats in grey leather, looked amazing.

Looked at the pricing guide and the std spec is really very good for £39,995.  Tech pack and maybe comfort pack the only must have options..

They must be predicting strong residuals because the PCP 3 year retained value is 60%.  Not sure I could live with the running costs as a daily driver but wow I love the look of it - just says " don't mess with me "

On the way - CS ed 40 tornado red, manual, 3 door
Weekend fun - low mileage portofino blue 1997 Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo

I wouldn't call it a bargain, but I know what you mean about it being wow - it is an amazing motor. The sound and performance is phenomenal from what I have read. But £40k phenomenal? I'm not so sure...

On the other hand though, what else can you buy brand new for £40k with that much performance/practicality? Without doing some research, I don't think you can. So, in that sense, yes maybe it is a bargain...

Here's a couple of links below of a guy on an Audi press day test driving the RS3. Insane indeed.

That's the base price, but if you add on the must have extras then it's a £50k car.  I sat in one at Goodwood, it is nice, but it's very dull inside and for £50k I'd want something a bit more special tbh.  Also, the handling isn't up to scratch (per the reviews, I've not driven one).

Saw a metallic black RS3 on the road today. Really understated but distinctive if you know what you are looking at.

£45k for me on the configurator, but I really do want a sunroof as well as a couple of packs.

I def wouldn't need to add £10k of options TBH...  Tech pack, sunroof, maybe 1 other. bit of discount and hopefully not much over £40k.  I would definitely be ticking the red calipers though.. very serious looking hardware.

As an all round, all weather package would tick a lot of boxes... group 40 insurance isn't bad, but I bet you wouldn't see over 20MPG when you have some fun..  That said if you are careful could probably get 25-30 on a run..

My Fiat Coupe is 5 CYL and I have to say its the best sounding engine configuration in my view

I bet you'd get feck-all discount on an RS3 - A £40k "virgin" RS3 might see you with a GFV of £24k, but lets say you need to add £5k of options, and you're talking £20k lost. Chances are though, you'll have some equity over and above GFV, you'll likely end up losing £17k.

Take a £35k R (with options), and it'll come in at £30200 to buy with broker discount, likely be worth £17k at trade-in, £13200 lost. Is the RS3 worth an extra £3800 over an R? Probably!

Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Interesting as I passed one on the M25 yesterday and thought it didnt look anything special - if I hadnt seen the badge from the back first nd the oval exhausts I would have just had it down as a black edition....

Daft question and all but is the new one mqb and most importantly does it have the fancy TT dash? I was thinking about it the other day and I didnt know and these would be deal breakers imo.

Also, does anyone know what the changes are in the engine dept, is it just a map or is it a new engine?
