Conti's fitted to new R's
« on: 21 July 2015, 20:38 »
A sensitive subject in these parts I know... :D

Anyway, my dealer took in a brand new R for stock today. Built week 26. Fitted with continental Contisport5 tyres! Perhaps an anolomy but every R I've seen up to now had the bridgestones.

I've posted the pics I took here - http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/9939-post-bw22-car-on-contis/

Ooh, promising and so rare it warranted a pic!   Maybe it's that legendary "luck of the Irish".  Fingers crossed your R is shod likewise.  When are you getting it?  Must be soon now?  Bet the rest of us still get the unmentionable rubber

I vaguely remember someone else on vwroc got their's on Conti 5s but that was a while back I think.

The tyres in your picture look like the non rim protection version.

Who knows, maybe VW are finally fitting these tyres instead. We'll need to see a few more post Wk22 cars to be sure!
My car went into production yesterday. I'd hope to see it land on these shores within 3 weeks. A lot of irish bound cars seem to land in even quicker than that but we have a bank holiday coming up and I reckon that could delay it a bit on this end.

Nice! I'm in the luxurious position that my company is owned by Continental AG...so its policy to replace any other tyres fitted with a Conti Brand!

(I wont be fitting UniRoyal's that for certain)

What a fortunate perk of the job!

It was suggested on vwroc that the 19" wheel delay may have actually been a 19" tyre delay - perhaps VW were sorting out supply with Continental and that's what took the time but others saying it was definately a delay with Pretorias, who knows?   Very interested to find out what shoes the next crop of R's will come through with.  I was kind of looking forward to trying out Michelin PSS for a change, as I've had Conti 5ps for last 3 years, but if my R comes with Contis then I will be very happy as they are an excellent tyre IMO.

Extremely unlikely. There's been no delays with cars here on the standard 19" Cadiz wheels.

Ha, yeah just read your post over there and amended my other post whist you were replying!  Must have been the Pretorias then.  It was wishful thinking, in the hope that we will get Contis.  Can but hope.

ha ha, we'll cling onto whatever hope that's out there

To give you an idea of typical wait times over here, that particular car was only ordered in mid May - only 10-11 weeks ago! I ordered mine at the end of March.

So they are coming through much quicker now in Ireland?  10-11 weeks is super fast.  You've had a very long wait.  Mine was ordered end of Jan, currently still unconfirmed week 35, so maybe see it end Sept, begining Oct at the earliest.   I got a bit upset with it all last week when dealer casually said it had slipped again, but what can you do?  Not a lot!  It's either wait or jump ship.  It is madness for a Golf.

No, what I'm saying is that 10-12 weeks is the typical norm for Irish cars. My wait has totally been the exception! If I'd not spec'd the prets my car would probably have been here in late May but then I'd probably have missed the bw22 updates too.
