Just because I was bored, I did a carwow on an RS6 - one dealer gave me 15% discount straight off the bat (£12,000)  - now if only I could find the extra £68,000

Where do I sign please?!?!?!??! ^_^

Had a call from my local BMW dealer this morning offer " amazing deals" on the outgoing 3 series due to facelift model coming in.

Anyway popped in by, seems dealer are ordering the last few high spec cars they can get, with substantial discounts available.  They had 2 x 330d M sport and 1 x 335d M sport on site, brand new.

Black car with black leather (bit safe) with M sport plus package (M brakes, xenons, HK hifi etc), Prof media nav pack, heated seats and a couple of other options, listed at just over £43k

They were basically offering to discount the car down to £36k, then BMW finance offering a £2,250 deposit contribution bringing the net price down to under £34k.  Think that's a pretty good price for a high spec 6 CYL auto 4wd car with high spec, 0-60 5.3 secs and 40 MPG.

You can do better than that at Coast2Coast cars - 24% discount on the higher specced BMW 3 and 5 series like the 330d/335d, which is what you need when BMW depreciation is considerably heavier than VW/Audi/Merc.

At the moment I'm holding out for a Mk8 GTI. But I have a few concerns. One being how much VW will charge. I'm watching VW steadily push the brand further and further up market without justification. The Golf used to be a humble quality brand but now it's getting a bit silly. Secondly I've not seen any leaked styling cues which means I might not even like it (a la Mk6). And thirdly when is it likely to hit our shores? Can anyone hazard a guess as to an estimated arrival date?

I've spent a lot of time on the Audi website and broker sites today, and noticed that currently there's just £145 between the manual 5 door R and the manual S3 Sportback (although you will beed ot spend some money on the options for the S3 which comes with leather seats, Xenons and very little else.

The MK8 is likely to be a subtle facelift in all but name, as the MK6 was following the MK5. If they make the interior any better there'll be absolutely no need for anyone to buy an Audi for anything but the badge.

The reason for my looking on the Audi website was doing the sums for getting the missus a car that I could use 1/2 the time for my commute, so it has to be something she'd like, and that I wouldn't mind driving too much, and also be economical enough to notice the difference at the pumps when we share the 2 cars between my 40 mile round commute and her 18 mile round commute.

I'd seen what seemed to be a cracking deal on a Seat Ibiza 1.2TSI I-Tech. £10k for a pre-registered delivery miles car, a £4k saving on list. There's a few things i'd like to add to the options, which cannot be done on a car already built. depreciation is a bit heavy, and i'm assuming that if they have any with metallic paint, it'll be £500 extra - likely £4500 depreciation suffered after 3 years, and expecting 44mpg from the stated 55mpg when using it on the commute.

Looked at the Polo 1.4TSI ACT also (with comfort pack, parking and metallic paint), would be expecting to lose £6500 on broker prices down to 3 year old p/x value, and get a realistic 48mpg on my commute.

Finally looked at the A1 1.6TDI Sport (with parking sensors all round, metallic paint, hill hold and convenience pack). Would lose £6k over 3 years, but gain on the fuel front. There's very little in the 3 cars overall for total 3 year running costs - the A1 costs £1500 more in depreciation but will save £1100 on the fuel vs the Seat and the A1 is free of road tax - so £310 between the 2 cars over 3 years.

OK, not my next car as in replacement, but a second car was ordered, for the missus, and also for me to drive half the time to keep the miles on the R down to reasonable rates (with my longer commute).

No surprises, it's the Audi A1 1.6TDI Sport manual with Comfort pack, park plus and hill-hold in Floret Silver (I preferred the Misano red pearl). Won't exactly set the road alight, but the missus had admired teh A1 for a long time.

On the offchance, I popped to the Silverlink branch of Tyneside Audi (about 2 miles from home) and they had a new 1.6TDI Sport (post-facelift) in, with the new wheels. Haggled with the salesman. Let him know he had to come very close to the DTD price. I wanted him within £100 of it to keep everything local, he insisted he couldn't get within £300 of it after a fair bit of haggling.

I got ready to walk, saying I was prepared to sign there and then if he could get to £100 more. He furiously bashed some buttons on his calculator and said at last chance he could get to £125 more than DTD, but they'll have all the embellishments of the pick-up - flowers for the missus, the whole "reveal" thing going on etc. As it's the wife's first car I thought it was worth the extra £25. Early indications are that it will be here mid-October. Got home and slipped the order form in the pile of today's post and waited for her to go through it all.

I know it only costs £65 but this can be activated by VCDS I'm sure.

Did you activate it on yours or did you find out too late too? If I can find confirmation that a post-facelift model has had hill-hold activated by VCDS then i'll get the order changed and buy something more practical like rubber mats.

Any other decent VCDS mods on the A1? Needle-sweep and drop passenger mirror on reverse seem to be the ones i've read up that seem genuinely useful.
