For me personally, I think I will going down the used car route next time round. Maybe like a 3/4 year old.

I really do like the GTD a lot but feel I could have got a lot more for what I am paying on the second hand market. Yes, yes I know it is a sin to compare new vs. used but I still can't help it.

For what I am paying for the lease on the GTD, I could probably get a used F30 330d next year (when my lease is up) for about the same per month on a personal loan. Only thing that worries me is the maintenance would obviously be a bit more being an "older" car. It would also be mine so wouldn't have to worry about giving it back/balloon payments/mileage restrictions/etc.

Also, I want a bit of a bigger car now that I could afford the insurance, which has always been a bit of an issue for me but now it seems the 330d would cost roughly the same as the GTD - I have no idea how that works but I ain't complaining!

I'll keep the Golf for a couple of years and then hopefully move onto one of these beauties!

A move to Cheshire too then?

Cheeky sh!te!

Anyone else think that with all the standard kit on the Golf, it's hard to look at other brands because of all the options you'd need to add on?

I can't not have Xenons now that I've had them in the Golf but most manufacturers are charging £1,000+ for them alone.

I spat my dummy out with VW when my GTI went from a 14 week delivery to a 31 week delivery, cancelled and ordered a M135i. With BMW's discount it came in £3k more than the GTI but does have £2k worth of sat nav that I didn't order for the Golf as the tech in BMW looks worth the money. I haven't got keyless, reversing cam (BMW's looks terrible), front sensors or adaptive cruise control but there is an extra 100bhp.
It's amazing quite how different the 135i and GTI are. I know the 125i(?) is probably actually closer to a rival to the GTI in reality but I've got to admit the 135i was the first car I'd driven in years and years that actually made me laugh as I drove it. A proper wild car and two fingers up to the PC brigade. BMW doing what they do best - putting a proper big engine in a car.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it. I can't believe BMW don't sell more of these things, I hardly ever see any around and always smile when I see one.

Yes, it is especially so where performance is concerned.

The present 1 Series will be the last RWD small BMW hatch. Perhaps a collector's piece in the making? Will I moan its passing? No, not one bit, especially with cars like the R/R400/S3/RS3 being available. However, I might buy, not lease, but buy an M135i; used obviously as it will be the last of its breed.

BMW tech in the 1 Series trounces VW tech and then some.  Touchscreens, big and small, are so last Tuesday. The really big ones are such a complete waste of big money.

Here was me thinking you liked a good moan  but I agree I wont mourn its passing either.

This shall be next beauty, as to what colour (blue or black) I am undecided, also after listening to the RS3 round a track I do wonder if I should push out for the 2.5l instead, in fact im going to add up the RS3 extras to see if it justifies the price. RS3 saloon say 2016 anyone?

I'll be honest Ex, the blue is a clubsport concept, but should look very rs3 similar, question is do I buy the S3 and make it look better (I really want oval RS pipes) or wait a long time for the saloon rs3 to finally be made?

S3 saloon -

And if it looks smaller than a vrs then it aint a real saloon in my book so its ok

Originally I couldn't get past its boring, ugly looks, plus the Golf is the better all rounder, better fuel economy, luggage space, etc. I went back and spent some more time when VW p**sed me off and the more I did, the more it grew on me. Lovely inside, great driving position, beautiful cabin, probably best tech I've seen inside a car and feels extremely well built. Then when I drove it, it put an instant smile on my face, the thing is crackers. It is a different feel to the Golf though, more a grand tourer than a hot hatch.

If I hadn't gone back and had a closer look I'd have been over the moon with the Golf, as it is I'm quite happy I ended up changing my mind.

Just because I was bored, I did a carwow on an RS6 - one dealer gave me 15% discount straight off the bat (£12,000)  - now if only I could find the extra £68,000
