Gets the same 'dash' as the new TT - must be an option surely?

Tempting as could use a bigger car, but always might hold out for the new RS4 Avant and weight that up versus a C63 estate.

So, let's pretend for a second that there will be no more Golfs (of any variant) made and you had to buy new. What would your next car be?

For me it'd probably be an S4 (maybe an S3) and if I could stretch one of the new C63 AMG Mercs (estate version).

I sort of have this problem already. The Golf was bought as my wife's car and she didnt like it so I inherited it as a weekend car (with a Passat estate or similar as company wheels at the time).

Now I have changed jobs, the Golf has to fulfill family duties and it doesnt really cut it (its three doors, I have an aged mum  and a son at uni - so lack of doors and lack of boot are drawbacks.... I also drive about 300 miles a week and its nearly all on  the motorway so not really the right car for that!)

Picking something at less than £30k / reasonably sensible to run (I am an accountant after all!) and that has bigger boot, more doors, an auto and is decent to drive is hard work. 330d touring is one option - dont want another 4 cylinder diesel as had my fill of them with a Merc! However, getting one at the right price, mileage spec and condition isnt easy. I fancy the GT hatch too but not at the budget yet. Petrol 328i is an option as a bit cheaper..... but I think i would rather have 330d for resale....

Maybe I will just have another Volvo... or keep the GTi and manage!

GTD estate?

Cant bring myself to go from petrol version to (4 cylinder) diesel version.....it would feel kind of regressive! Not that there is anything at all wrong with the GTD, its just in my head!

have looked at a (prereg) A6 3.0Tdi quattro.... it just sneaks under the upper limit but suspect lease costs will be higher as residuals (its pre reg and pre latest minor facelift) wont be great....

R estate - out of budget and would you buy one to drive 300 miles a week in a straight line through lots of average speed cameras....!

go on then - £30k upper limit or £375 a month PCP on 12k miles a year, six cylinder diesel, or economical and powerful petrol, not an about to be replaced model, not a Skoda or Seat (wife's instructions), and something I can drive 2 and a half hours at a sitting with no problem.....

I'm finding a very short list - even if I go estate, hatch or saloon with big boot.....

A5 sportback - based on old A4 chassis and new one just announced.
Passat - dont know about the new model, the old one was bloody uncomfortable!
Mondeo - would have to be petrol and they are not economical....

Mercedes - E class too big and expensive (and I had one and didnt really like it), new C class isnt available as 6 cylinder diesel.....

wont have french!
